24 to Heaven is a feature documentary currently in production written and directed by Brian Culkin that examines post industrial America, the social and spiritual theatre of boxing, and the Attardo family of Boston, MA.
"The interior life is essential to the boxer. Sociologist Loic Waquant referred to the 'erasure of any distinction between the physical and spiritual' through its practice. Manifesting through the intensity of corporeal and mental training, the solitude of roadwork, and surrendering to the biological processes of instinct and flow, the pugilist merges his mind-body complex into an instrument of kinetic force. Known for their ascetic rituals, the champion boxer must 'let go of the world' through diet, a moderated training regimen, and above all, mental and physical clarity. However, the lifestyle of the boxer, infused with spiritual like rituals that required a certain level of social and cultural stability, became nearly impossible to maintain in the chaotic social infrastructure of South Boston throughout the 1970's and 1980's; the same period of the Attardo brothers rise. "
Brian continues his discussion about his new film "24 to Heaven"; the story of South Boston, Massachusetss champion boxing family, the Attardo's.
With precision accuracy and laser-like insight, Brian's analysis of all the components of urban ethnic and factory life paints a gripping story of boxing's rise and fall in post-war Boston. His academic background as historian, scholar and athlete provide the essential tools necesary to make dialectical connections between semingly extraneous variables to synthesize a compelling argument as to nobility of boxing not only as sport but, in addition, as art and spiritual practice, and the reasons for its growth and development as well as its demise and fall.
By focusing his attention to a particular family in a strong ethnic neighborhood over two decades, he is able to highlight the individuals, the sport itself, and the concomitant effects it had on all inhabiting an urban society during the post-war period.
Boxing, itself, becomes a character in an almost Shakespearean tragedy along with its other main characters, the athletes within the Attardo family, itself.
Join Brian as he provides the backdrop to the film, as well as his motivation and purpose in choosing this subject.

Well, that was a drubbing wasn’t it? Last week’s bad election news – the voter suppression, the apathy, the disenchantment with Democratic messaging and a disconnect with actual achievements – has another and truly awful dimension. What will Congress be like now that some dangerously fringe right-wing elements will be going to the Hill? Claire Connor, author of Wrapped in the Flag: A Personal History of America's Radical Right joins us today to give her perspective on the radical right’s wins in statehouses and Congress. Later in the show we’ll have some upbeat news and how you can support girls by supporting the Sheroes campaign to highlight female STEAM achievers and encourage girls in grades 3-8 to pursue careers in fields where women are under-represented.

The blues is life itself to Bernie Pearl. A guitarist with an upbeat, finger-poppin' picking style he learned at the elbows of bluesmasters Sam 'Lightnin' Hopkins, Mance Lipscomb, Mississippi Fred MacDowell, and others. Yet, Bernie Pearl is no hidebound traditionalist. As music critics and aficionados have said for years, he is a craftsman who packs his songs with melodic interpretations that are new and personal each time he picks up his vintage Martin or National. To hear him tell it, "I'm not a retro player. I'm playing real blues for right now."

"Tamara Bubble is refreshing. This creative vivacious artist grabs your attention. Nice vocals and good production will take her far, but her ability to rap and sing will take her further. A hybrid of hip hop, soul and jazz. All TB needs is a break and I'm sure it will manifest soon." ~ 360 Magazine
"It seems as if there's nothing she can't do. She shows her versatility on this record by delivering confident rap vocals accompanied by an upbeat melodious hook that had me out of my seat doin' some kinda Beyoncé dance" ~ Nikkisiix.com Smaktastik Review
"Of course, Brooklyn is also the borough that gave rise to name like Foxy Brown, Lil Kim, and MC Lyte, so don't think that Tamara Bubble is unable to switch the script and spit some bars. Tamara Bubble proves that Brooklyn is still a fertile hunting ground for talent. Singing, rapping, acting, and modeling, she is a quadruple threat." ~ Popculturez.com Review
