Francis Weller, Grief, Ritual and the Soul of the World

    in Self Help

His book discusses creating pathways to reclaiming our indigenous soul, what psychologist Carl Jung called the “unforgotten wisdom” that resides in the heart of the psyche.

Recognizing the lack of existing dialogue and the profound need for sacred ritual and grief work in his community and beyond, Weller founded Wisdom Bridge in Northern CA, an organization that offers educational programs that integrate the wisdom from traditional cultures with the insights and knowledge gathered from western cultures.

Francis Weller, MFT, is a psychotherapist, writer and soul activist who has developed a style he calls soul-centered psychotherapy, synthesizing diverse streams of thought from psychology, anthropology, mythology, alchemy, indigenous cultures and poetic traditions.

Beginning in 1997, Francis helped to create Men of Spirit, an intensive year-long initiation program designed to restore the masculine community as a resource for cultural renewal. Since its inception, Francis has taken nearly two hundred men across this threshold, comprising twelve clans of men from Southern California to the Canadian border. He has also facilitated a number of mixed-gender villages with the intention of creating sustainable communities that can tend the need of the soul for belonging. http://www.enteringthehealingground.com/

The Exotic World of Roxanna - Host Joanne Mathis

    in Music

“My music is romantic adult contemporary pop flamenco,” Roxanna states emphatically when she describes the muses for her debut album, ‘Exotica’. Indeed, it is. The songs are filled with lush orchestrations, sweeping pop sensibilities and simmering sensuality, all with a decidedly Spanish flair.

While it may have looked easy to get to where she is today with the release of ‘Exotica’, the reality of it all has been years of hard work, determination and perseverance. “As an independent artist, I’ve accomplished things that many developed artists haven’t,” Roxanna says. “Including making a music video with Matthew Rolston, having an actor from a soap opera, or having Chris Botti, the best trumpeter, to perform on my album, and all the musicians who perform on my album and in my concert. Money doesn’t buy all these things, you have to have the talent and people have to believe in you.”

Roxanna uses her considerable vocal gifts to tell stories of romance, heartache, healing, passion and sensuality. She debuted her first single, Unforgotten, a year ago. The song garnered acclaim and was just a hint of what was to come. Her followup single, Close Your Eyes, is a sweeping ballad that starts with a gentle piano and soars on the lifts of a huge orchestra like an eagle on an updraft. “Close Your Eyes was originally written by Lindy Robbins and Mark Portmann,” Roxanna says of the song. “The reason I chose to sing that song was I love the lyrics, I connected to the lyrics from my days as a nurse. The line, ‘I’ll be here till the sunrise’, that’s what the nurse’s duty is, to be there until the end, until they need you. It was originally written for Celine Dion and she didn’t want it so I took it.” Celine’s loss was Roxanna’s win as the song has become her first Billboard Top 40 Chart hit.

Searching for Stanley: Unforgotten Hero of World War II

    in Military

Kay Hughes “is a World War II enthusiast. Her father and contributor is veteran Harold E. Dwyer, a World War II B-17 combat pilot. Hughes has lived in Geneva, Nebraska, for over thirty years with her husband, Rick. A graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Hughes is a mother of three and a grandmother. Her life revolves around family, their farming operation, friends and community.”  Kay Hughes is the author of Searching for Stanley: Unforgotten Hero of World War II.
According to the book description of Searching for Stanley: Unforgotten Hero of World War II, “World War II did not end in 1945-at least not for the Dwyer family of Hastings, Nebraska -Nayeli Urquiza and Dardis McNamee, The Vienna Review For decades, Kay Hughes was unaware of her family's unresolved mystery. After her grandparents, Harold W. and Ellen Dwyer, received a telegram stating that their son-2nd Lt. Stanley Dwyer-had become MIA over Austria on May 10, 1944, they began a relentless search. Left with only unanswered, nagging questions, they endured a lifelong private grief. Years later, one question would rekindle the search which, in turn, led Kay and her father, Harold E. Dwyer, Stanley's brother, on an intriguing journey across two continents and generations. In their quest to understand Stanley's fate, Kay and Harold developed friendships, visited with eyewitnesses, stood on hallowed ground, and observed the dedicated work of the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command. In her poignant narrative, Kay details how clues salvaged in the charred rubble of a fi re revealed the essence of Stanley- almost forgotten World War II hero. Searching for Stanley is a timeless, real-life tale that illustrates one family's dedication to finding their beloved Stanley who, like thousands of other American patriots, made the ultimate sacrifice for his country.”

    ROXANNA

    in Music

The Canadian singer-songwriter, Roxanna, is a breath of fresh air emerging with a Latin flair from a cultured background, distinguishing herself from contemporary artists. Joining forces with Mark Portmann, known for working with Michael Buble and Barbara Streisand, Roxanna has produced a polished and luxurious rich sound. Her upcoming album release will provide a seamless, mastered mix of adult contemporary, classic pop, world, and a taste of flamenco. Her first single though provides a little preview of Roxanna’s sultry vocals that make her truly “unforgettable”. “Unforgotten” takes you on a personal journey of an empathetic story, with her accompanied music video. Featuring Days of Our Lives actor, James Scott, the direction perfectly fits with the dramatic storyline and emotional lyrics. Roxanna stops by on Monday, December 17 at 8:30pm EST to discuss her latest release.
