Tom Gagliano debuts Don't Put Your Crap in Your Kid's Diaper

    in Lifestyle

Tom Gagliano debuts his latest book on parenting. Thomas Gagliano, author of the best seller,  “The Problem Was Me”, a motivational speaker and respected leader in the field of self-help therapy has just authored his second book: Don’t Put Your Crap in Your Kid’s Diaper (Amazon CreateSpace, August, 2015). Thomas challenges parents to take ownership of and deal with their own crap thereby decreasing its negative impact on their children and families. His advice is dispensed with humor and examples from his own experience as a son and a father.

In Don’t Put Your Crap in Your Kid’s Diaper, Gagliano opens with a simple admission; When we [parents] think we’re doing our best, it can be unpleasant to hear someone say we can do better. Parenting may be the most difficult responsibility any of us will undertake. Even our best parenting efforts have distortions and can be improved. This book will help parents recognize which areas of their parenting skills are strong and which areas need attention as well as giving parents the tools to keep them on track.

Let’s face it; families today are met with challenges that generations before were not. More frequently both parents must work, having less time than ever to nurture their own intimate relationships and to parent. This often leads to grandparents and extended family members becoming primary caregivers. One-third of grandparents today are asked to step into the role of parent. Additionally, electronic entertainment by way of smartphones, video games and computers occupy much of our children’s attention. Families have become disconnected.

    November 12th Prayer Call

    in Prayer

We are assured and know that [God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose. Romans 8:28

Blessed shall you be when you come in and blessed shall you be when you go out. The Lord shall cause your enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways. The Lord shall command the blessing upon you in your storehouse and in all that you undertake. And He will bless you in the land which the Lord your God gives you. The Lord will establish you as a people holy to Himself, as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the Lord your God and walk in His ways. - Deuteronomy 28 6-9

Whatever may be your task, work at it heartily (from the soul), as [something done] for the Lord and not for men Colossians 3:23

  • Meditation and Inspiration - No More Demands

    in Spirituality

It’s common mistake when we undertake the practice of meditation to turn it into one more way we drive ourselves to exhaustion and frustration.  We expect ourselves to get still, quiet, and to shut off our continual flow of thought.  We expect inner peace and insight – in short order!   And when all that doesn’t happen, we try harder or beat ourselves up.

Please don’t turn your meditation into one more way that you put demands on yourself.  Let’s explore together how taking the time to meditate becomes a way that you let go of all your expectations, and give yourself the gift of space and timelessness. Meditation can be a refreshing break from your daily demands, a sacred and renewing time to let your true Self simply Be.

Tonight, we share a quiet and sacred time together.  Some inspiration will set the tone, and then we'll have a semi-guided meditation practice.  There will be silent spaces to allow you to deepen in the meditation, and gentle reminders along the way.  Join me to support your meditation practice or to start a new one!  Let's awaken the Divine Within.

Your host, Reverend Connie L. Habash, MA, LMFT, is an ordained Interfaith minister, licensed marriage and family therapist, yoga and meditation teacher, and spiritual mentor.  Discover more about awakening the Divine within you at her website, http://www.AwakeningSelf.com

Quieting the Mind leads to great decision making...with Kimberly Jonas

    in Lifestyle

Quieting the Mind leads to great decision making...with Kimberly Jonas.

Kimberly Jonas is a self-employed spiritual coach and inspirational author. After being steeped in the corporate world for nearly 10 years as a project manager and art director, she left that world in 2002 to teach yoga, meditation and other mindful practices. Her corporate and spiritual worlds have been entwined ever since – she has owned a 30-employee spa and studio, has her own line of healing essential oils, and recently self-published three volumes of poetry. All while helping others to access their full potential through practices designed to quiet the mind and ignite inner wisdom.

Quality Decisions Start with Quieting the Mind

    1. In all of your business ventures over the years, do you feel like you’ve always worked from the place of a quiet mind?

    2. We’re talking about quieting the mind as a source of good decision making. Can you speak a little bit about how poor decisions come from an “unquiet mind” so that we have a little more context?

    3. With your experience in corporate America complimented by running your own enterprise, how have you used "quieting the mind" to make the best decisions?

With your experience in corporate America complimented by running your own enterprise, when do you feel that “quieting the mind” served you the most?

    4. Can you help me to debunk this idea that you have to meditate for hours in order to have a quiet mind? I think the idea can turn people off because it feels like you have to undertake a bunch of major, involved practices to cultivate a quiet mind.

    5. Do you believe it’s possible to get to a point where the mind is always quiet?

    6. Give an example of a decision you made that was not preceded by "quieting?" Moving to Colorado to work for a family owned business?
