Xernona Clayton and the Trumpet Awards

    in Entrepreneur

Xernona Clayton is the Founder, President and CEO of the Trumpet Awards Foundation, Inc. and Creator and Executive Producer of the Foundation’s Trumpet Awards.  The Trumpet Awards is a prestigious event highlighting African American accomplishments and contributions.  Initiated in 1993 by Turner Broadcasting, the Trumpet Awards has been televised annually and distributed internationally to over 185 countries around the world.

Ms. Clayton began her television career in 1967 and became the south’s first Black person to have her own television show.  The Xernona Clayton show was a regular feature on WAGA-TV, CBS affiliate in Atlanta.

Xernona Clayton was employed at Turner Broadcasting for nearly 30 years where she served as a corporate executive.  In 1988, Xernona Clayton was appointed Corporate Vice President for Urban Affairs with Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.

Xernona moved to Atlanta in 1965 where she accepted a position with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and worked closely with the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Her persistent fight against the dragons of prejudice and bigotry was never more apparent than in 1968, when the Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan denounced the Klan and credited Xernona’s influence with his change.

Upon the announcement of Xernona’s appointment as the first Black female corporate executive, Ted Turner said, “Xernona has an impressive record of accomplishments and we are proud to recognize her commitment to bettering human relations with this promotion.”

Suffering a Great Point of Preparation

    in Christianity

No one is signing up to suffer, but it is inevitable if you are going to be used by God. The best humble pie is suffering, because you notice that when you have endured through a trying time you gain a greater appreciation of God. Remember you said that you wanted a closer walk with Jesus, well let's start the process.

LOTL The Comfort Zone Welcomes Darren Barrett’ - Debuts “Trumpet Vibes.

    in Music

Darren Barrett’ - Debuts newly released seventh album, “Trumpet Vibes.

For the first time in his award-winning career, the trumpeter-composer-producer explores his Jamaican roots on a recording project. Adeptly, the Boston-based artist from Toronto introduces good-time reggae rhythms and frenzied ska beats native to his parents’ Caribbean homeland to hard bop and swinging jazz on the eight-song set that he produced and wrote four new compositions.

A charismatic companion to engage in meaningful discourse and occasionally play foe to his astute trumpet play, Barrett selected the vibraphone to share the spotlight as a featured “voice” throughout the session, with noted vibes soloist Warren Wolf guesting on a pair of tracks to participate in improvisational banter with a young trio comprised of vibist Simon Mouillier and brothers Alexander and Anthony Toth on bass and drums respectively. Also of significance is that Barrett opens the session by saluting his late mentor, trumpet great Donald Byrd, on the chirpy swinger “Fly Little Bird.” Interesting to hear him ply the jazz-meets-reggae motif to pop gems such as the regal “To Sir With Love” and amorous overtures like David Gates’ “Everything I Own” and Stevie Wonder’s “My Cherie Amour.” Barrett shines on his own compelling compositions, including the moody and murky “Chiapas”; the deliberate “Song For A Princess,” on which he takes his time – nearly seven minutes - to bop and blow while cruising a laidback island wave; “Phantom dB” that gets a jarring jolt of rock & roll drumming and some dissonant trumpet distortion; and the slightly more conventional straight-ahead jazz foray “The Club Up The Street” that wraps the disc.

    Are You Really Born Again?

    in Christianity

It is yet confirmed that I can see that people refuse to embrace the word of God. They say that they are a Christian, saved, tongue talking, spirit filled, bible carrying, usher serving, dancing and shouting in church people but they look like and act like the world. The church today is just another religious extension of the world in different locations.

Go to Church vs. Coming to Jesus

    in Christianity

The first thing people do when they want to get their life right, they go to church. I beg to differ because now you are still continuing being lost with other lost people that are just as mixed up as you are. Everywhere in the bible the great men of God came to Jesus not went to church. Wake up today and truly start the process of your salvation through Jesus Christ

Can You Stand To Be A Son

    in Christianity

I am provoked all the more to press into the things of God when I look at the resume of those God used in the Bible. People carelessly say that they are Christians without baring the power of God in their lives. Let every man be a liar and God's word true. Either you are a son or a sodomite. There is no 50 shades of gray.

    Separate to Elevate

    in Christianity

The more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war. This is truly a word of wisdom. As we start 2016, most Christains have a skewed vision of what season we are in. This is not the time to focus on your happiness or anything that makes you comfortable, but it is a time  to be bold as lions in the face of great persecution and tribulation for Christ's sake. Are you ready to go on the battlefield in the name of the Lord? Ready or not, tribulation has come!

....so What Are You Going To Do Now?

    in Christianity

Insanity screams "I am expecting things to be different, but I am not going to do anything to change." I am going to make all these confessions, declarations, and professions but at the end and beginning of the day I gotta "do me". This is my time. I gotta get all I can and can all I can get. I gotta get paid....still letting your happiness depend on something you may lose. This message will either provoke you to walk in the new or stay in the old because the number of the year does not determine your progression, development and maturity in God.
