A Review of Todays Trucking News

    in News

We will be reviewing the stories affecting trucking today and hoping some drivers will join us for a discussion regarding how enforcement of the sleep apnea rules are affecting them and what they are doing to comply with the physician's recommendation.  Are there more 3 month med cards being issued?  Are the physicians over stepping their authority? Did FMCSA not give enough guidance to physicians?  Have you tried to be proactive and address any issues prior to going for your DOT physical?  What's working, what's not?  Have you searched the web for miracles?  Why is it that many drivers have bad eating habits, lack of time to exercise or just plain can't pass physicals?  Drivers?  Companies?  DOT? Physicians? Truck Stops?  I believe all share the responsibility.  Let's discuss it?

Open Trucking Forum- Addressing FMCSA shortcomings

    in Current Events

Saturday 4-11-15 6PM ET : A hot topic for many within the trucking industry- the FMCSA.

To say the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has been under criticism and dissecting scrutiny is an understatement. Whether you are a company driver, owner operator, carrier, broker, organization, trade group, or Government Accountability Office, chances are you have found yourself fuming one time or another about an action FMCSA has either taken or proposed to take.

We open up with Tom Byerley of UrTruckBroker.com. Tom is a 44 year trucking veteran with over 4 million safe miles.  Owner Operator turned freight broker, Tom shares his concerns with us tonight regarding the FMCSA’s CSA program scores and the affects they are making on the industry.

From there we will lead into other areas which are seriously affecting the trucking industry, including how those acting as “brokers” are avoiding the $75,000 bond designed to protect carriers from broker fraud.

Join us and share your views, insights and opinions.  Let’s talk about it. Call in number: 347-826-9170.

The Challenges of Training Women Entering Trucking

    in Women

    Would You Be A Trainer?

More often we hear of targeted recruitment of women to enter trucking despite the shortage of qualified trainers.

Why are there so few trainers willing to train women?

In this recorded conference the Women Truckers Network discuss issues that would prevent seasoned drivers from wanting to have a female student on their truck.

This is good information for women entering trucking to realize that part of the shortage of qualified drivers is due to their expectations and the realities of the trucking lifestyle.

    Call (646) 668-2277

We will all be faced with the decision to sign a contract at some point in our business. When working with a new broker it can be tempting to rush to the signature line and secure that freight before it's gone. What might you be missing? What can signing a bad contract do to your business? How can you avoid the traps of "legaleeze" layed out for you? What can you do to avoid these problems? We will discuss the red flags and share what to look out for when you have one of these documents in front of you. We will talk about ways you can edit these contracts to be more favorable for both parties and not just a blanket of protection for the brokers.
