MCC's Rev. Troy Perry joins the podcast
Join co-hosts Mark McNease and Rick Rose as we welcome the Rev. Elder Dr. Troy Perry to the show. Rev. Perry is the founder of the United Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches (UFMCC), a worldwide denomination that began with 12 people in his living room in Los Angeles on October 6, 1968. Over the course of 45 years, Rev. Perry became an internationally recognized spiritual leader and one of the world's leading activists for the civil rights of gay/lesbian/bisexual and transgender people.
Rev. Perry hold an Honorary Doctorate of Ministry from Samaritan College in Los Angeles for founding MCC, an Honorary Doctorate in Human Services from Sierra University, Santa Monica, California for his work in civil rights, and was lauded by the Gay Press Association with its Humanitarian Award. Rev. Perry has been invited to the White House on five occasions.
In addition to everything else, Rev. Perry was a featured speaker at all of the LGBT Marches on Washington: 1979, 1987, 1993, 2000 and 2009. He conducted "The Wedding"--a demonstration for marriage equality at two of the marches--in 1993 at the IRS building and in 2000 at the Lincoln Memorial. Troy Bernier & Ginnungagap FilmWerks: Journey to Planet X
Scientist by day, filmmaker by night, Troy Bernier and his fellow director, Eric Swain, have set the film festival circuit on fire with their documentary "Journey to the Planet X" and their film "Planet X, Part II: The Frozen Moon." And now that their documentary was secured by Lionsgate and is available on Epix (http://www.epixhd.com/journey-to-planet-x/), he and his Ginnungagap FilmWerks alumni set their sites on a new project ... a time traveling adventure called "Temple of Joy," currently in the works and seeking funding (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/687737279/the-temple-of-joy).
On today's show, Rachel Galvin will get an update as to their projects and some of the alumni will come online to share their experiences with the film as well as some of their own projects.
The success of these projects is a testament to what can be possible when a filmmaker is really determined and never says no for an answer.
