PAWsitive Radio presented by Team Toby. Join host Charmaine Hammond, professional speaker, bestselling author and president of Team Toby as she interviews Rita of SparkySnacks.ca!
Rita’s dog, Sparky, was an amazing 17 year old cocker spaniel that passed away after a heroic battle with heart disease and cancer. He inspired Rita to be stronger, go further, and showed her that no hurdle is insurmountable. He was the bravest, strongest, and most cuddle-some pooch ever and will be so missed.
Sparky was diagnosed with cutaneous lymphoma and a dilated cardiomyopathy (flubby heart). He often struggled with his appetite due to his medical treatments, so Rita decided to bake treats and cook foods to satisfy his nose and ease his tummy! Sparky was a very fussy little pooch and it was ever the challenge to satisfy his palate and be tender with his tummy, so you know if he liked it, it was fussy pooch approved!

DOG TRAVEL EXPERTS: Paris' new book TEXAS WITH DOGS will inspire you to get right in your vehicle and head to the dog-friendly beaches on the Texas shore.
Next on THE EXPESRT VET: Worst advice you'll ever get from a vet? “Let's keep an eye on it.” Never! Dr. Donna explains why you need to get to the bottom of any growth or test abnormality. Advocate for your pet and get copies of all tests.
And then on DOG TALK: Sue Halpern's book A Dog Walks into a Nursing Home is inspiring people across the country to join the ranks of therapy dogs; Tracie discusses the how and whys of the dangers of Chinese chicken jerky with veterinary clinician Dr. Urs Giger, Director of the University of Pennsylvania Metabolic Genetics Laboratory, where they have been testing urine samples for Falconi Syndrome potentially caused by jerky treats, going back to 2006; Tony Corbo from the lobbying non-profit Food & Water Watch in Washington, D.C., sheds more light on the tainted chicken jerky treats from China by disclosing the financial and political background of the jerky issue. Food & Water Watch has documented Chinese factories that cannot pass inspections (when they allow them), and 5 different antibiotics found in these products — 4 of which are illegal in the U.S. and the 5th occurring in toxic quantities.
On the next Pelvic Messenger, Diane Lee will discuss the forces that affect the pelvic floor and how to maintain pelvic floor health!
Diane Lee has been practicing physical therapy for almost 40 years, and she is the owner and senior Therapist at Diane Lee and Associates. Diane is a member of the Canadian Physiotherapist Association since 1976, and she is a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Therapy (FCAMPT) since 1981. In addition, she created the Com-pressor, a unique, patented sacroiliac support belt as well as the newly released Baby Belly Belt, a specialized pelvic support with broader applications
Diane is internationally recognized as an expert in the field of thoracic, lumbar, sacroiliac, and pelvic disability and pain. The fourth and latest edition of her popular book, The Pelvic Girdle, serves as a crucial guide for many practitioners. The theory behind The Integrated Systems Model for Disability & Pain, an approach co-developed with L-J Lee, is an evidence based whole body/person approach to help optimize function and performance. This approach considers regional alignment, biomechanics and control during meaningful task analysis and determines something called the ‘primary driver’ when there are multiple sites failing to transfer load well during the task being analysed. The primary driver is the area of the body that when treated will have the biggest impact on function and performance of the rest of the body. Diane treats, teaches, writes, and creates. Her enormous contributions to the world of pelvic floor physical therapy are recognized and appreciated.
