Healing from the trauma of injustice and dehumanization with a liberated soul

    in Lifestyle

It is a unique trauma when it is inflicted upon one human by another, or by another group of humans. It can be particularly devastating when a human being is violated by others of the same species. And we are pretty much singularly unique as a species in terms of perpetrating evil and conducting heinous acts with no other purpose other than dehumanization.

Rape. Murder. Abuse. Humiliation. Torture. Brutality. Heartlessness. Cruel authoritarianism. Misogyny. Mass violence. And countless other forms of anthropocentric evil; countless other types of vile dehumanization; countless other ways humans have learnt to inflict suffering upon each other and upon our non-human family.

The resulting trauma lasts a lifetime.

The pain and hurt is even tougher to deal with if we feel like justice, however we might define it, has not been served.

Considering how few of these incidents of trauma come to light and how most forms of “justice” are in the hands of some of the most unjust, traumatizing institutions this world has ever seen, such as the authoritarian state and its armed mercenaries, it’s safe to say that the overwhelming majority of trauma inflicted by humans upon other humans does not see true justice being served.

But that doesn’t mean we cannot heal. It doesn’t mean we cannot liberate ourselves. And it certainly doesn’t mean that your trauma has defeated you.

This piece is aimed at taking a step towards healing and liberating oneself from such trauma...

    in Youth

The Men of Semper Fidelis distinguishes the relationship a man has with each other, that is like no other. It goes beyond just being men, it’s a brotherhood and last for a life time. These relationships are dedicated to bringing men and youth from all racial backgrounds together and helping them establish true male relationships. Not just pertaining to sports and casual conversations but building a brotherhood. Our goal is not only to build friendships and establish a brotherhood between men & youth, but to be an intricate part of making a difference in the community in which we live. Before our community can change, men not women must change physically, emotionally and spiritually. This is what MSF is all about, changing men/youth lives by building healthy relationships with one another to make an impact in our community by leading, protecting and providing for our families!

Detroit Public Schools: Our Kids Deserve Better

    in Radio

Some 88 out of 97 schools in Detroit closed recently after teachers called in sick in protest of rodent and mold problems. There are complaints of an odious smell of mold and mildew that hits you like a ton of bricks when you step through the front doors at Spain Elementary-Middle School in Detroit. Once a school any city would be proud to have in its district. Today, it’s the poster child for neglect and indifference to a quality teaching and learning environment for some 500 students.

The gym is closed because half of the floor is buckled and the other half suffered so much rainwater damage from the dripping ceiling that it became covered with toxic black mold. Instead of professionally addressing the problem, a black tarp simply was placed over the entire area. That area of the school has since been condemned.

The once beautiful pool sits empty because no one has come to fix it. The playground is off-limits because a geyser of searing hot steam explodes out of the ground.

Exposed wires hang from missing ceiling tiles. Watermarks from leaks abound. Kids either sit in freezing classrooms with their coats on or strip off layers because of stifling heat.

Complaints to Darnell Earley, the emergency manager over the Detroit Public Schools have seemingly fallen on deaf ears.

Pozitively Dee: Untangling the Intersection of HIV & Trauma

    in Health

Despite the widespread availability of anti-retroviral therapy (ART) in the U.S., more than half of people living with HIV (PLHIV) in the U.S. are not engaged in regular medical care. This show will discuss ways in which unaddressed trauma in the lives of PLHIV negatively impacts access to and engagement in care, further complicating health outcomes as a consequence. We will discuss intervention, and posits recommendations for further action. Our aims will be to offer high-impact structural intervention to facilitate healing from trauma, improve individual health outcomes, and provide tools for PLHIV to achieve their health goals.

Healing Prayer for Trauma from Sexual Experiences

    in Spirituality

Testimonies of our prayer receivers who were healed of trauma caused by sexual experiences in the past.  These experiences may have been as common as "playing doctor" as a child or as complicated as repeated sexual and physical abuse.  They may have been raped, ambushed after school or harrassed by same sex attractions and may not have sinned in any way.  Would you know how to pray to break the trauma of a wounding sexual experience?  To restore the victim's God given purity and sexuality?  How to pray for the guilty party who used another to meet their sexual needs?  How to pray for the parents of the one in sexual sin?

When the City Sleeps #NocturnalInk Presents: Preech the Profit

    in Poetry

On this Episode of When the City Sleeps #NocturnalInk I will have the pleasure of sharing the mic with a most talented brutha, Preech the Profit!!

Born in Pensacola, Florida, now residing in Atlanta, GA, Preech The Profit or Preech for short, first introduced himself as a Spoken Word Artist in his hometown of Pensacola in the year 2011. The Preech part of “Preech The Profit” came after he had taken the time to analyze his performance methods & noticed that he almost sounded like a preacher reciting a speech. “The Profit” came from his desire to give back to communities & be a “profit to society” in addition to a pun with the word “Prophet” as a result of his tendencies to philosophize his own perspectives & idealistic nature. Spoken Word artist, Hip-Hop Artist, & entrepreneur, Preech The Profit, first gained an interest in words in elementary school when he would read the dictionary as if it were a book. As his knowledge for the meanings and sounds of words grew, he later reached a stage in middle school where he found the creativity in word play to be very interesting.

This new found interest led him to the exploration of his abilities to arrange words in ways that fit together as if they were a finished puzzle. During this time, he continued to write lyrics without a purpose other than to explore his imagination. Preech began to take on poetry as a way of life after working on the verses for a song & feeling as if the lyrics needed no instrumental to be appealing, because the lyrics alone carried the fluent tune of a professional song. It was at this time that he really began to notice just how talented of a writer he was. This realization brought him to an interest of exploring his talents in spoken word. He began to make YouTube videos & advertise them on social networking sites. This led to him being offered the opportunity to perform at a fashion show. Ever since then, Preech has performed & featured at over 50 different venues and locations.
