Each November on Transgender Day of Remembrance, we mourn the loss of our transgender sisters and brothers and pledge to end transphobia but sadly our work is not done. Although Janet Mock, Laverne Cox, and others are opening doors for the transgender community, too many of our brothers and sisters every day must face discrimination, violence and transphobia on the job and in their communities.
Joining CAN WE TALK FOR REAL co-hosts Terry and Michelle on Wednesday August 12, 2015 is Carter Brown, founder and director of (BTMI) Black Transmen Inc. With its sister organization Black Transwomen Inc., they are leading the way in Black trans-advocacy. Through the Black Trans Advocacy Program, the Black Transmen Inc. & Black Transwomen Inc. and Black Trans International Ball/Pageantry System organizations have joined together in the only social justice program developed to collectively address inequities faced in the black Trans human experience.
Besides sharing the history of BTMI and information about its annual conference in Dallas, TX each April, Carter will discuss the “hot button” items for Trans Advocacy, resources for the Trans Community and how the LGB community can be better allies to their Trans Brothers and Sisters.Carter Brown is also a loving husband, son, and brother. He was a stellar employee BUT HE WAS FIRED FOR BEING TRANSGENDER! He will share his personal account of being fired for being Trans and how his experience is being used to shed light on the continued challenges facing the LGBTQ community in the workplace
Kudos to the Transgender community for finally getting the positive spotlight they deserve. Celebrities Janet Mock, Laverne Cox, Chaz Bono and Caitlyn Jenner have truly helped kick down doors and ignite thought provoking conversations about another aspect of human sexuality. However, some of the media exposure seems a bit contrived and competitive as if networks are trying to 'one-up' the other by including a Trans topic or character in their programming.
Most recently rumors spread of the Real Housewives of Atlanta adding a Trans person to their cast. That being said, are Black gay men no longer the hot ticket on reality television. Has their season runs its course, and if so is it wise for the Trans community to try to fill that void? Will it devalue their struggle or take things to the next level.
This is going to be a very exciting conversation with special guests Tyesse Jackson and Kentay Williams.
CHAPTER ONE EL ISTAKLAAG "THE CREATION" THE CONTINUATION OF TABLET ONE: EPIC OF CREATION AND BEFORE
THE EL'S HOLY TABLET'S SHOW EVERY SATURDAY NIGHT AT 9 PM EST ON WGAG RADIO!
Howdy, folks. We're back after an understandable Saturday pre-emption due to this past weekend's legendary Afropunk Festival held at Brooklyn's Commodore Barry Park. Check out our impressions of the event during the latest episode of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review airing this Wednesday at 7:30pm EST. Join your hosts, Dburt and Capt. Kirk as they discuss the following issues: Dburt's thoughts on the escalation (and evolution) of the other Black experience commonly refered to as Afropunk; a St. Louis mother's empassioned rant critiquing the Black Lives Matter movement goes viral; futurist and entrepreneur, Elon Musk's vacuum travel project might be gaining more traction and viability; a belated hat tip to Shadow and Act for their highlighting of an upcoming film project about African American women who were NASA mathematicians during the Civil Rights era; and while films about Black genius are in development, memetic minstrelsy may get rewarded (again) with Straight Outta Compton garnering Oscar buzz (do they ever give awards that show AA communities in a good light?); DC's Vixen gets her animated closeup. And lastly, famed director, Steve McQueen with the assistance of Hollywood iconic actor/activist, Harry Belafonte may be gearing up to make a Paul Robeson biopic (Oscar, anyone?). Call the hosts live at 646-915-9620.
In fact, because of this deep desire for peace, the ruling class leaders of this land, from 1945 on, stepped up the hysteria and propaganda to drive into American minds the false notion that danger threatened them from the East.-Paul Robeson

What is Transgender?
I think sometimes, about what it means to be transgender. I probe and probe for answers, because as the possibility for a new age of enlightenment and safety increases, the others want to know. I’ve come up with many answers, but I can hold to none. I don’t deserve to paint the definition of a culture with the limited experiences I’ve had. I don’t see myself in the transgender identified people allowed on television. I don’t see myself in the transgender identified people making news feeds and giving high profile interviews. And as my nation’s exposure to our culture increases, likely will their curiosity. Am I transgender? Do I have the right? I’ve heard doctors, psychiatrists, may refuse transgender patients access to hormone therapy based on how dedicated or convincing their portrayal of their identified gender. If you want to be a man or woman, you’ll have to look like the women and men on TV. If you want to be transgender, you’ll have to look like the trans identified people on TV. Every single one of us who has an active role as either participant or observer in our society is prey to the crisis of validity. Am I pretty enough? Am I strong enough? Am I brave enough? Mom enough? Dad enough? Competitive enough? Successful enough? Rich enough? Sexy enough? Pious enough? It never ends. We’re, as a nation of people, being crushed and compartmentalized by this ever present lens, looming over us, exploiting our weaknesses and fears so it may grow wider, and support itself as it follows us, seemingly forever into the future.

Now that we have had time to observe the Donald Trump phenomenon, there is enough evidence to make a clear assessment of what it represents. The rise of Trump is an epic expression of frustration with the American political system, and it is a natural outgrowth of frustrations with America’s changing demographics; the hollowing out of white working class values and culture. Ben Domenech Federalist
Jeb Bush signaled a major shift in strategy when he went on the offensive against Trump, criticizing him as insufficiently conservative; Bush’s allied super PAC flew a plane over Trump’s Alabama rally on Friday trailing a banner reading “TRUMP 4 HIGHER TAXES, JEB 4 PREZ.” Some Bush allies cheered his courage in taking on Trump, while others worry Bush may damage or diminish himself in the process.
