African Americans of Alexandria, Virginia
Beacons of Light in the Twentieth Century
Char McCargo Bah, Christa Watters, Audrey P. Davis, Gwendolyn Brown-Henderson and James E. Henson Sr.
This show will explore a new book written about Alexandria’s twentieth-century African American community. Experience the harrowing narratives of trials and triumph as Alexandria’s African Americans helped to shape not only their hometown but also the world around them. Rutherford Adkins became one of the first black fighter pilots as a Tuskegee Airman. Samuel Tucker, a twenty-six-year-old lawyer, organized and fought for Alexandria to share its wealth of knowledge with the African American community by opening its libraries to all colors and creeds. Discover a vibrant past that, through this record, will be remembered
Char McCargo Bah is a professional genealogist for the Alexandria Legacies—Freedmen’s Cemetery Descendants Project of the City of Alexandria, an author and a public speaker. Audrey P. Davis is currently the acting director of the Alexandria Black History Museum and has been employed by the City of Alexandria for over 20 years. Gwendolyn Brown-Henderson is a native Alexandrian and retired United States government worker. James E. Henson Sr. is a retired attorney who grew up in Alexandria. Christa Watters is a freelance writer and editor who has lived in Alexandria for thirty years. This group came together to document the history of African Americans who were agents of change and served as Beacons of Light in Alexandria in the twentieth century.
Our first Guest tonight is W.P. Rigler author of "Terror's Taste" a tale mixing Jack the Ripper and Vampires, and "Summoned Secrets" a book of macabre prose and poetry. William's strongest interests are writing and filmmaking. His love of Horror has led him to several appearances in low budget Horror films in roles of inhuman characters such as zombies and vampires. Iconic creatures such as these often fuel his imagination and and his writing.

Christina Adkins: STILL MISSING IN CLEVELAND ... as is Ashley Summers.
Join me tonight as I talk again with Heather White about the disappearance of Christina Adkins on January 10, 1995 from West 25th Street in Cleveland, OH.
We will also be talking about the disappearance of Ashley Summers on July 6, 2007.
Both women went missing from Cleveland and the rescue of Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michele Knight has reminded everyone that Christina and Ashley are STILL MISSING.
Christina is a Caucasian female and goes by the nick name Christy. She has pierced ears; a mole on her right shoulder blade; scars on the abdomen and navel. She had previously had a fractured right wrist.
Christy was 17 years old & 5 months pregnant at the time of her disappearance. She was living with her boyfriend at that time.
Christy had gone to a friend’s house and alleged was staying overnight there, but it turns out she went home that night, as her boyfriend was working evenings and she wanted to be there before he got home.
The friend had said she left and was talking to a person in a vehicle which was never determined by police as no one came forward.
Christy disappeared between two houses and was approximately 1000 feet between the friend’s house and where she resided.
Christy was to meet up with her best friend the following morning when her best friend went to see her she was nowhere to be found.
Anyone with any Information please call the FBI or the Cleveland Police (216-623-5200).

Listen as host Burke Allen crawls out of his mancave long enough to learn about the weird, wonderful world of the Mrs. Virginia pageant from Mrs. Herndon VA contestant (and wife) Cristi Adkins, Mrs. Richmond Danette Anderson, Mrs. Harrisonburg VA Mandy Leeth, Mrs. Central Virginia Autumn Skye-Boothe and Mrs. Smithfield Cheryl Nelson.
We'll find out:
-What possesses these otherwise sane women to enter the zone of Honey Boo Boo and Donald Trump
-Why pageant contestants tend to crash and burn during the dreaded "interview question"
-Why anyone would listen to an interview with pageant contestants, when they can't actually SEE them in their swimwear/fitness wear/evening gown/twirling a baton
-What their husbands say (yep, these are MARRIED pageant participants) about their new hobby
...and more! We welcome your calls and quickchat messages at Noon ET Wednesday September 25th. Don't miss it!
