Abena Joan Brown, one of the early pioneers of African-American theater in Chicago and the president and chief executive officer of the eta Creative Arts Foundation for 40 years, died on Sunday. She was 87.
Articulate, passionate and intimidating to behold, Brown ran eta with uncompromising determination and old-fashioned formality, shepherding the organization to new facilities in an old window factory on S. South Chicago Avenue, near the corner of 75th Street, and always pushing for further growth
As Brown often said in interviews, her impetus for starting eta was her own inability to find work as an artist: Its precursor was founded in 1969 by Brown, alongside Okoro Harold Johnson, Al Johnson and Archie Weston.
Operating initially under the name Ebony Talent Associates, the group wanted to increase exposure and opportunities for African-American actors in Chicago. But Brown found that more training was needed for those actors, and thus eta was born.

Today, I am thankful that God is always in control of everything.
Our quote of thanks is from A. C. A. Hall. He said, "Learn the lesson of thanksgiving. It is due to God, it is due to ourselves. Thanksgiving for the past makes us trustful in the present and hopeful for the future. What He has done is the pledge of what He will do.”
Our Bible verse of thanks is John 11:41. It reads, "Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up His eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard Me.”

Welcome to The Inscriber Media Network, home of "The Mad Scientist's Sports Lab", hosted by "The Mad Scientist of Sports" Nick Ficorelli and "The Apprentice" Andrew Gluchov. This is not the average everyday sports show they are bringing to the air waves. "The Mad Scientist" has created his own personal sports lab, and you, the audience, as well as many of his special guests, will be his test subjects. He will throw theories out, and you never know where they will be coming from. He will keep everyone guessing, and he will open his lab to any and all comers. Be prepared for "mad science" sports talk at its best.
Tonight, once again, we have a special episode as we talk about last week's Hall of Fame Inductions, the MLB Trading Deadline, NFL Training Camps, and a special appearance by What A Fan's CEO regarding his Sports Conference and Awards Ceremony. At 10pm, we welcome Mark Healey, founder of Gotham Baseball and Editor at The Wave of Long Island, and formerly of The Associated Press and SiriusXM, and Dan Schlossberg of Braves Banter, both of whom will give their take on the MLB Trade Deadline and Hall of Fame Induction. At 1030pm, we have Barry Bloom aka Boomskie, nationally acclaimed writer with MLB.com, to also chime in on the Hall of Fame and Trading Deadline. At 1100pm, we have Jeff Lloyd of RSENetwork and Draft Breakdown, Brandon Pemberton of Sports Trap Radio, and Dennis Farrell of Fox Sports Detroit 105.1 to come on and talk NFL training camps - what to look for and more. And, at 1130pm, we Lowell Moore, CEO of What A Fan, to talk about his conference and awards ceremony in September.
The beacons are lit, the experiments are on the chalk board, and the test subjects are at the ready - The Mad Scientist's Sports Lab is open for business.
Mr. Warren is known for his improvisations on various themes and preludes. You can consider him a modern day Virgil Fox whom himself played a Rodgers Organ while doing his Heavy Organ Tours. Mr. Warren draws his techinques from standard church hymns and places his own vibe on them. The great Mr. Fox also had done that, and mostly with variations on B-A-C-H. Mr. Warren regulary posts his pieces on soundcloud.com and he can be searched using the name waynewarrenruskin1995. Call in to speak with Wayne at 347-826-7693!
