WPH: Sarah K Interviews Corinne on How to Sew for Profit

    in Women

There was a day and age when every young girl was taught to sew in their Home Economics class at school, if not at home with their mom or grandma. But those days have long since gone by; and today, someone that can sew has a world of opportunity to make money working from home. How much money you can make depends on your skill level, equipment, availability to do jobs quickly, and your creativity.

A basic sewing machine and the ability to repair torn seams, replace zippers, hem garments, and/or make simple alterations is enough to get you started.More advanced skills and equipment will be required to offer higher quality services.

You’ll need to start by determining what kind of sewing you enjoy and want to do on a regular basis. You may want to start with something simple, and work your way up as your speed and skill increase.

Here is a short list of sewing projects just to get you thinking about what could bring you a regular source of income:

    – Minor repairs and alterations.

    – Home decor items (pillows, blankets, curtains, drapes, place mats, napkins).

    – Bags, totes, purses.

    – Soft children’s toys.

    – Doll clothes.

    – Receiving blankets.

    – Aprons.

    – Canvas items for boats, yachts, camping.

    – Banners (shops that produce printed banners usually need to have raw edges finished).

    – Wedding gowns, veils, bridesmaid dresses.

    – Prom or fancy party dresses.

    – Suits, vests, ties,cumberbunds (cummerbunds).

    – Custom outfits for choral groups, dance teams, drill teams, karate classes, period reenactment groups, local sports teams, etc.

033115 Andy Touma-City Council Chair Niagara Falls NY

    in Politics

In this segment of our show Niagara Falls city Council Chair Andy Touma and I discuss city issues of sanitation, city charter, and spending. Mr. Touma elaborates on some of his concerns and some of the initiatives he and the city council have introduced.

Regarding sanitation we discussed the contract and the resources necessary to implement the effective delivery of that service. The manpower makeup of the SWEET team is also discussed..

Enforce the law, Brooke D'Angelo the coordinator of the program called in to explain the bulk pick up that runs from April 6 through May 8.

Some callers discuss Modern's performance with the garbage pickup.

A lengthy discussion of enforcement took place with some of the callers.

People emphasizing that we should have bulk pick up once a month throughout the year. The question of the extent the responsibility of landlords to getting rid of bulk pick up was discussed.

Some people are concerned and hope that the enforcement is done fairly and consistently.

The caller discussed the North Tonawanda garbage pickup were violations are designated by a sticker placed on the tote by the individuals picking up refuse.

The issue of frozen pipes and collapsed sewers was also discussed. Callers were wondering if the infrastructure has ever been comprehensively evaluated to determine the necessary work to be done.

040215 The Vince Anello Show-Open Mic

    in Politics

The first couple of callers discuss the financial woes in the city of Lockport, transparency and competency were the main points. In Niagara Falls the issue of sanitation seems to be on everybody's mind. Lack of compliance and enforcement are frustrating many residents in various neighborhoods.

040715 Charles Walker-Councilmember City of Niagara Falls, NY

    in Politics

Callers discussed casino revenues but, again, the focus was on sanitation and the new program instituted January 1, 2015. The totes that are left out are becoming unsightly in many neighborhoods.

Councilman Walker discusses his concerns on the sanitation effort. He shares with us that during the approval process for the sanitation contract with Modern the city Council was not receiving accurate information from the administration.

Councilman Walker emphasizes the need for enforcement. The total cost of this effort needs to be identified and explained. The long-term cost of the program must be accurately determined. It is obvious during the discussion that even councilmembers realize that not all questions have been considered and not all answers have been clearly determined.

I asked Councilman Walker if he knew what the cost of the day-to-day operation of the railroad station is going to be I reminded him that the Amtrak station does not cost the city a dime to maintain. I asked if any discussions have been had with Amtrak.
