The Black Issue with Dad. Urban Therapy with Sun #168

    in Lifestyle

The issue of the Black father has been going on for generations and unfortunately in a negative way.

Whether we are talking about the absentee father, the deadbeat dad, the abusive father, the man that never really came around, the man that had all those kids, the man that wouldn't marry my mom, the man that we never met or the one that we can't seem to get it together with, the Black father is a polarizing figure. He commands a lot of attention for a man that so many people say hardly exists in our lives.

The issues with fathers is not exclusive to Black people. Other races and ethnic groups have had similar issues with fathers but their issues seem to have dealt more with abusive or neglectful fathers inside the home. Many Black people have the opposite experience.

This is not a general show concerning fathers though. This show will focus on personal issues that people have had in the Black family with their fathers.

What has been your experience concerning your dad? Was he there? Was he absent? Have you been mad at him most of your life or have you been looking for him most of your life?

Has someone else that is not been your biological dad been your dad all your life? How did that turn out?

Have you been taught to feel like a father is not as important in your life as a mother is?

What about people who have sons? Do we secretly fear that our sons won't be there for their children if they grew up without a dad? Do we try to prevent that from happening or do we let the chips fall where they may?

What can be done to remedy the situation of the Black father in relation to the child, the family and the community?

How It's Going So Far? Resolutions Revisited. Urban Therapy with Sun #167

    in Lifestyle

It takes stamina and endurance and determination to devise a plan and stick to it. The beginning of the year is when the men get separated from boys in this regard. By now, people are either wondering if they should've started what they started or if they need to change direction.

How's that workout plan going? What about that diet?

Have you ran back to that lover that you kicked to the curb?

Are you still not speaking to those toxic friends that you cut off?

Have you started adding back those friends that you deleted off of social media?

Have you started back cursing and swearing yet?

When was the last time you smoked a cigarette?

How much money have you saved so far?

Still sticking to that celibacy plan?

Yeah, it's only been less than a month but it seems like a lifetime when you feel like you've made the wrong decision or when you bitten off more than you can chew. People go overboard with New year's plans all the time. They get fed up and and make rash decisions. How about you? Are you sticking to the gameplan?

Let's see if we can help each other out. Let's support each other. Let's see if we can get each other back on the right track and follow through until at least the spring. LOL

The Kerri Edelman Show presents Rock Band Red Sun Rising

    in Rock Music

Rock music should be built to last. Since its genesis, the genre has been all about longevity not a “flavor of the month” or a “flash in the pan.” Whether you go back to the seventies or nineties pillars, the goal was to create something that can be lived with for a lifetime. It still can be that way. Akron, Ohio’s Red Sun Rising—Mike Protich [vocals/guitar], Ryan Williams [guitar], Tyler Valendza [guitar], Ricky Miller [bass/vocals], and Pat Gerasia [drums], proudly carry on that tradition with their full-length debut, Polyester Zeal [Razor & Tie]. “It’s not today’s rock, but it’s a new alternative,” declares singer and guitarist Mike Protich. Through tireless gigging, they built up an impressive local fan base, soon attracting the attention of multiple labels. Razor & Tie rushed to Akron in the Fall of 2014 and signed the band following a sold out hometown show.  The band headed to Los Angeles shortly after to cut Polyester Zeal with celebrated producer Bob Marlette [Black Sabbath, Shinedown, Seether]. They managed to siphon the pure, potent, powerful guitar chemistry, towering vocals, and muscular rhythms into the record’s 11 tracks with all of the “grit” intact. The first single “The Otherside” sees thick clean guitars clash with an unshakable refrain that’s as airy as it is anthemic. However, Polyester Zeal will be, and it firmly establishes Red Sun Rising’s place in rock. “The title sums it up,” concludes Mike. “Zeal is something you strive for, while Polyester is obtainable. The juxtaposition is, ‘What’s your obtainable dream?’ Ours is to tell stories through these songs. Hopefully, it makes you feel something. That’s what rock is supposed to do after all.” For more information, visit www.redsunrisingmusic.com
