    Will and Thunder Welcome MindMaze

    in Rock Music

Our first guests of 2015, MindMaze are a promising band like no other. Hailing from Allentown, Pennsylvania the four-piece band are relatively young, but have honed their craft with over one-hundred gigs, including sharing the stage with metal mainstays such as Saxon, Primal Fear, Overkill, George Lynch, Doro, Fozzy, Raven, Jon Oliva’s Pain, Circle II Circle, and others as well as being selected from hundreds of entries to open for Mötley Crüe in May 2013.

Vocalist Sarah Teets displays both power and range in her vocal work, which maintains a cleanness that still has grit when it needs to. Her vocal style and attitude immediately set her apart from the stockpile of dime-a-dozen female vocalists on the metal scene today, calling to mind a soaring, melodic, and powerful style akin to greats such as Bruce Dickinson, Ronnie James Dio, and Russell Allen. Matched with the impressive yet tasteful playing of the rest of the band (including brother Jeff Teets on guitars and keyboards, Kalin Schweizerhof on drums, and Symphony X’s Mike LePond on bass) and an exciting live performance to boot, MindMaze are winning audiences over with every show and every listen of their music. It’s only a matter of time until the rest of the world takes notice.

He'll be stopping by to tell us a little more about the school, the students, and we'll be playing some tunes from these talented young artists known as ASH ROCK!

We're also going to have some co-hosts this week; filling in for Will this week will be our friends Rob and Sean from the band Aries! They've been great guests and we're glad to have them back on the show to help us out in Will's absence. Will and Thunder Welcome: Aries

    in Rock Music

Aries began in the fall of 2008 when Rob Bradley decided to form a band to revive some of the sounds that music with strong connections to his influences, a band with razor sharp, arena-ready riffs, powerful hard rock/heavy metal vocals, and a solid rhythm to back it up.

Now, a number of years later, that vision still remains. Rob Bradley still fronts Aries, with Sean Rhodes taking the command of guitar duties, and Andy Ham and Tim Slack completing the rhythm section.

Aries can be easily identified musically or on the stage; known for their high-energy live performances, as well as by their signature diverse, epic sound, Aries has shared the stage with such legends as Sebastian Bach, The Protomen, Dio Disciples ft. Tim "The Ripper" Owens (Judas Priest, Iced Earth) on vocals, and Symphony X, and have carved a name for themselves in such events as 98 Rock's Noise in the Basement, The Exposed Music Festival, etc.Aries has also been named as 98 Rock/Shockwave Magazine's Band of the Month(December 2012) followed by being named as their Band of the Year(2013). Aries stays busy with a show schedule that has had them perform in Virginia, Connecticut, Illinois, and many other regions of the East Coast.

Recently winning Shockwave Magazine's Band of the Year award for 2014, "Rise" (the band's latest album) was funded by a legion of dedicated fans through their Kickstarter. With an initial goal of $3,500, the final amount reached nearly $4,000.

Rise features a range of lyrical topics written by Rob Bradley. From themes of paranoia (Trial by Fire), vigilantism (Beware the Gun), rebellion (Rise), to existentialism (Cradle to the Grave), this album marries progressive metal and hard rock cleverly.

Will and Thunder Welcome DC's 'A Sound of Thunder'

    in Rock Music

A Sound of Thunder delivers a unique and exciting blend of classic heavy metal, progressive, and rock.  The young upstarts from Washington, DC pay no heed to trends, focusing on quality song-writing with memorable melodies and riffs that stand the test of time.  With first class musicianship all around, the band's not-so-secret weapon is vocalist Nina Osegueda.    Standing only 5' 2", the diminutive singer packs the vocal wallop of someone twice her size.  Described as a "heavy metal Swiss army knife", Osegueda moves effortlessly from delicate whisper to overwhelming power, with the occasional banshee wail thrown in for good measure!

A Sound of Thunder was formed in 2008 by guitarist Josh Schwartz and drummer Chris Haren.  After over a year of numerous line-up changes and false starts, in late 2009 they were joined by vocalist Nina Osegueda, who had grown restless in her previous band and was in search of broader musical horizons.  The chemistry between Schwartz, Haren and Osegueda was instant, and the band wasted no time recording their self-titled debut EP in late 2009, and follow up single benefitting the West Memphis Three in early 2010.
