Furious Cool: Richard Pryor and the World That Made Him
Richard Pryor attracted admiration and anger in equal parts. He was a comedian who many consider the greatest ever, yet his triumphant stand-up work has been largely eclipsed by his mediocre movie output. His personal life was likewise something of a contradiction, because Pryor was a man of deep intelligence and sensitivity yet was also someone who could never seem to make the pieces of his life come together to create a whole. His was a fascinating, larger-than-life personality; he was as pivotal and essential a figure. Pryor the solo artist brought to a pop-obsessed generation the news that they had a past with deep roots that spoke to our shared humanity.
David Henry is a screenwriter and his brother, Joe Henry is a singer/songwriter as well as a music producer. This is their first book, and they are working on a screenplay based on Pryor's life and career.
Wednesday's The Thomas Loop Radio Show features national recording artist, Stacy Clark.
Here is an excpert from Clark's website - www.stacyclark.net - Clark's brand new EP, Days Into Nights, following the success of her previous album Connect The Dots, which landed at #12 on Billboard's Heatseekers and was listed by Amazon as one of the "Best Records of 2011". Her song "White Lies" was selected by iTunes as the Single of the Week, propelling her to #7 on the charts, and "Touch & Go" was used in a national commercial. Days Into Nights will be released this summer on Harbour, an imprint of EMI/Caroline.“Having a career in music is everything I’ve ever wanted,” she says. “Nothing is more satisfying than writing a song and having someone listen and feel like they can relate,” Clark says. "My songs will outlive me and I hope they can make a difference in someone's life in the same way music has done for me.”
Rain Pryor is an acclaimed director, actor, stand-up comedian, educator, dynamic speaker, and mother. As artistic director of the Strand Theater in Baltimore, MD, Pryor placed the theater on the DC/ Baltimore map, leaving the Strand with a surplus that it had not seen in its five years. She stepped down to start her non-profit Baltimore TheatreWorks. Baltimore TheatreWorks provides performance opportunities and builds a theatre arts culture for grades 6-12 in Baltimore City. Pryor is a headlining stand-up in her own right. She fills her own shoes where stand-up is concerned and is not trying to be her iconic father, Richard Pryor. She has been featured regularly in Baltimore with good friend Mickey Cucchiella. Together, Pryor and Cucchiella are developing many projects. The Baltimore Sun chose Rain as one of 3 area comics to watch. "Fried Chicken and Latkes" is Pryor's award winning solo show based on her life. It is a irreverent and poignant look at racism. Rain completely created and wrote her show, including adding some original music and lyrics. Rain was a Los Angeles Times "Critics Choice" and her singing voice and sense of timing were hailed as rare gifts. The NY Times "Critic Pick" and review says, “she has an outsized presence built for Broadway." The show is the recipient of the NAACP Theatre Award, Best Female Performer Equity and was recently selected as a Celebrity Solo Performance for the National Black Theatre Festival. She stops by to chat on Tuesday, June 18, at 7pm EST.

Monday's Thomas Loop Radio Show features Jeff Eggleston.
Jeff's Bio from jeffreyeggleston.com -
A consistent performer and adroit racer, Jeffrey Eggleston has established himself among the nation’s brightest marathoners. He has been a fixture on U.S. national teams, running the marathon at the 2011 and 2013 World Championships, and the 2011 Pan-American Games.
Few athletes could make claim to a more quixotic journey into marathoning élite than Eggleston. After a brief and lackluster collegiate running career at the University of Virginia, Jeffrey quickly emerged as a top 10 finisher on the U.S. road racing scene. In 2009, Eggleston, sponsorless at the time, took a gamble and moved himself to Flagstaff, AZ.
Under the tutelage of Dr. Jack Daniels, he turned his attention to the marathon and made a successful, albeit quiet start to his marathoning career in 2010: debuting in 2:14 and then finishing 2nd place at the U.S. Championships.
In 2011, Jeffrey made his presence widely known by winning the Pittsburgh Marathon in spectacular fashion. Brought in by race organizers as a pacemaker for 18 miles, he finished the assignment and proceeded to hammer away from the leaders to a commanding victory. A month later, he lowered his best to 2:13 and would go on to represent the U.S. at the IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea. This led to his selection to the 2013 World Championship Team, where he went on to lead the U.S. in Moscow with a commendable 13th place finish.
My opinion is leaning now toward fact in regards to Darcy Degier, General Manager of The Buffalo Sabres. A Thomas Loop Topic - my spin on President of The Buffalo Sabres, Ted Black.
I have a soundbite of an interview that I did with Paul Steigerwald - play by play caller of Root Sports (TV) Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh Penguins). His thoughts on Ted Black, who was previously on a Championship Winning Organization - Stanley Cup winners, The Pittsburgh Penguins.
Now Ted Black is here in Buffalo...working for The Buffalo Sabres. My thoughts on air - of what could be going on in the front office for The Buffalo Sabres.
