On the Saturday before MOTHER'S DAY, the cool critics did a show on MOTHERS. A dedication to mothers. A week ago because B.B. King died, the Cool Critics did a show on BB King. Both of the shows are available via BlogTalk to download if you want.
THIS WEEK, after having William "Mickey" Stevenson on KINGS IN THE MORNING, I was thoroughly impressed of what that man brought to MOTOWN Records. Mickey Stevenson put Motown Records on the map with his writings, with his producing, with his organization. I saw his name on records, but I never knew how valuable William "MICKEY" Stevenson was the the Motown foundation. With a great foundation like MOTOWN has become, where do you think, the Commodores, Rick James, The Jackson 5, the many many MANY artists that Berry Gordy Jr & the MOTOWN company created, exposed, manufactured and more would have been had there not been a Motown Music Empire? Today, you will hear his words, his works and learn some information on a piece of Motown. Thank you for joining us!
As you all probablly know by now, B.B. King has moved on. He was 89 years of age, but made decades of years of contribution to music and in inspiring upcoming, and current musicians. From humble beginnings, and life obstacles he was able to master his guitar and craft his vocal to total world acceptance. You will hear a feature on Bobby Bland, who B.B. toured with often, and you will hear music from the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendryx, Bruno Mars & The Artist formerly known as PRINCE, as he mentioned opening up for the Rolling Stones, meeting Jimi Hendryx and playing with him, and liking Purple Rain. Of the years B.B. King performed, you know he had to rub elbows with a lot of other greats, learning from them, contributing to them, making his ICON in the music industry. THE COOL CRITICS feature his music, his words, a touch of his magical aura on the show today, May 16, 2015.
On this week's ScreenPicks Movie Show, we review five new films. They include Hot Pursuit with Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara, the zombie film Maggie with Arnold Schwarzenegger, The D Train with Jack Black and James Marsden, 5 Flights Up with Diane Keaton and Morgan Freeman, and the Irish/Vietnamese film Noble.
AreYouScreening.com and BFCA critic, Marc Eastman, and co-host extraordinaire, Shane Leonard, review Hot Pursuit.
Is the downward spiral of female-led comedies continuing, or is Hot Pursuit a lot better than the trailers might imply? Is this one worth your time? Can Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara entertain you for slightly less than 90 minutes?
We'll let you know what's going on with this one, answer listener questions, and give you the scoop on some upcoming films.
Today on the COOL CRITICS will be a MOTHER'S DAY SPECIAL. Tomorrow, May 10 will be MOTHER'S DAY so today, the show will be dedicated to Mothers all over the world. All the music on the show will not have reference to Mother's day, however - the show will feature a song by THE MOTHER OF ALL FEMALE SINGERS, ARETHA FRANKLIN, and also will play a song by a group that has the word "MOTHER" in it - "MOTHER'S FINEST". Jame's Brown has a MOTHER of a song and Johnny Guitar Watson will sing a REAL MOTHER FOR YA.
For the complete song list of music of all the songs played today, go to tolliver.com - It will have the 2 hour playlist of the songs that play today, May 9th 2015. There will be some poetry, and a couple of songs from my mother's grandchildren Dave Tolliver and DeTyme Poet Tolliver. The Cool Critics want to wish everyone, mother-in-laws, step-mothers, adoptive mothers, sisters who had to be mothers, fathers who were mothers (single fathers), grandmothers, and aunts who were mothers to somebody. Also Godmothers. a HAPPY HAPPY Mother's Day!!!
Donald Grammer will produce and perform THE FUNKY RHYTHM CONNECTION which comes on after THE COOL CRITICS
