The Ladies and Gentlemen of Horror is a unique anthology that focuses as much on the writer as on the stories they tell. With around ten thousand words of pure horror from each amazingly talented Lady and Gentleman, as well as in depth biographies and beautiful photos, this anthology is something you do not want to miss. The anthology comes out annually on Halloween in three print editions: The Ladies of Horror, The Gentlemen of Horror, and a combined version, The Ladies and Gentlemen of Horror. I would like to thank Jennifer Miller for her help in scheduling this episode. We also plan another episode for the release of the 2014 Edition of The Ladies and Gentlemen of Horror later this year! Sounds FANGtastic!
You will be treated to an evening of Horror Poetry written by two of the contributors to The Ladies and Gentlemen of Horror Anthology.
Matthew Fitzgerald - Matt was just a kid when he wrote his first story. At eight years old, he penned a tale of two brothers orchestrating a daring rescue to break their grandfather out of a hospital, where he was being held against his will. The story was a way of exploring his own need to help his grandfather, who was spending a prolonged duration in the hospital during a struggle with brain tumors. Matt had learned at a young age that books could provide adventures and absolutions otherwise unavailable to us, but couldn’t quite find the one needed for this, so he wrote it himself. It’s of some import to note that Matt is a poet first and foremost. He went to St. Michael’s College in Vermont, where he majored in English literature. While there, he also explored a love for theater and theater management, one he had built while working at the local community college theater through high school. Inspired by a more flowery script, he dove into Shakepseare, Poe, and Johnson- he is always looking for those weird abstracts that have a knack for returning the dive by staying with us, even after the story is over.
William Morrow - For the past five years, William Morrow has served his country as a soldier in the United States Army; deployed twice Afghanistan in 2009, with 3/82 AVN REGT, 82ND CAB, Ft. Bragg for six months and Kuwait/Iraq with 416TH TC, 260TH QM BN(Deactivated), Hunter Army AirField in 2010, for one year. Mr. Morrow is a veteran with two world tours under his belt and proud of his service. Getting out of the army next year and looking forward to his future. Mr. Morrow is a dark poet heavily influenced by H.P. Lovecraft and R.E. Howard.
Often it's said that men don't know how to be gentlemen! We don't have our father's around to teach us how a man should act.We are just a bunch of man boys walking around grabing our crotches and cursing! This stereotype is untrue and just damn HURTFUL! There black men that know how to treat women! We know how to open doors for a lady. We even have been taught to help other women out that aren't our mother's, girlfriend's or wives! The issue that this black man has is women that seem to forget how to say THANK YOU! So Monday at 11 pm join Sasha and myself Max as we talk about can a brothea get some appreciation!! As always we will have the Sports report by me, Max and Sasha will bring you all the entertainment and news that's happening in the world. So join in our converstation and call in at (929) 477- 1332.
Is Chivalry dead? Is being a gentlemen a thing of the past?
I'm pretty sure that by now you've grown tired of seeing our young Black men running around with their pants hanging down with their sneakers untied looking like they slept in their clothes. It probably makes you cringe when you hear our young men speaking as though they have never heard of proper English, acting as if they have no manners and showing very little respect for their elders or their peers. You probably have wondered what is going to become of their future when you see young men with tattoos everywhere including faces and some of them entering the criminal justice system at alarming young ages.
This young generation really does appear to be headed for a lot of trouble and it can leave you wondering: Why aren't their any youth mentoring programs to show these young men the way to be and the way to go the way grown folks used to? Well there is one that is doing some extraordinary things with our young Black men that is already restoring our confidence in them, our belief in them, our faith and expectations of them.
The Elite Gentlemen Club (EGC) based in Atlanta, GA has developed a youth mentoring club that is revolutionizing the way that we train our young brothers for the future. They are teaching them the way to dress, the way to speak, the proper way to conduct themselves in public and in private. They are showing them the value of achieving academic excellence in school and showing them how far in life that that can take them. They are showing them the way to become entrepreneurs by exposing them to successful movers and shakers in various industries and showing them the way to approach those people by training them with impeccable interpersonal skills.
We will be talking to the founders and organizers of the EGC and giving a detailed explanation of what they are doing and letting you know what you can do to get involved.
