"Are You Called to Comfort?" A Show on Compassion Fatigue

    in Christianity

“Are You Called To Comfort”?  Join me today as we look at the phenonenom of compassion fatigue or caregiver's syndome.  Many of us are called to comfort and care for others. We are often  called to "care" for others, sometimes because we "have to",  and other times because we "want to".   It is most often, a combination of both the "have to" and the "want to".  So how do we "comfort others with the comfort we've received",  and do it in a  way that gives life to both the giver and reciever? Caregiver burnout is a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion that may be accompanied by a change in attitude -- from positive and caring to negative and unconcerned. Burnout can occur when caregivers don't get the help they need, or if they try to do more than they are able -- either physically or financially. Many times caregivers who are "burned out" experience fatigue, stress, anxiety, and depressive symptims.  Many caregivers also feel guilty if they spend time on themselves rather than on their ill or elderly loved ones.  Today we will look at how to know if you are burning out, the feelings that come with caring for other another (on any level), and how to do it in a healthy way.  So, we ask the question again, "How do we comfort others with the comfort we've received,  and do it in a way that gives life to both the giver and reciever?  Most of all, we find that the ability to comfort well is always connected to the caregiver's ability and willingness to receive care.

    Reducing Nurse Fatigue

    in Health

According to the CDC, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, insufficient sleep is a public health epidemic. For the average adult, the required amount of sleep is 8 hours. A recent study revealed that 1/3 of adults tend to sleep less than 6 hours. In 2009, nearly 17.5% of adults between the ages 18 – 45 admitted to nodding off while driving to and from work. Research also suggests that lack of sleep can result in a lower quality of life for a person. In addition, these sleep deprived individuals tend to experience illness more frequently than people who get the required amount of sleep. People who continuously lack proper sleep are also more likely to experience an inability to concentrate on tasks throughout the day. These people may experience a more difficult time with their memory or the interactions that they experience, which result in more confusion than someone getting the required amount of rest. Today we will be discussing: Reducing Nurse Fatigue with Nurse Reezena H. Malaska, RN, MSN, and CCRN.

    in Health

    SHOW DESCRIPTION:

Do you suffer from Migraines, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Multiple Sclerosis and/or Skin Conditions? If yes, then you do not want to miss this week’s show. I will be discussing how to conquer these conditions with a drug-free option so that you can regain your health and feel great again. Naturopathic Doctor Elizabeth Yarnell joins me for what I expect to be a great eye opening interview!

    GUEST BIO:

Elizabeth Yarnell, ND, has a mission to improve lives simply by changing the way we eat. Award-winning author, patented inventor, social entrepreneur, and prolific natural health and nutritional expert, Elizabeth strives to help people identify the foods and lifestyle elements that are healthy for them, and then to inspire new ways to think about living and eating. After a 1999 diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis forced her to take a good look at her own diet and lifestyle, she dove into researching the connection between what we eat and how we feel. The infusion cooking technique she subsequently invented and patented not only gave her a way to alter the course of her health, but also offered a deliciously quick and convenient weeknight dinner solution for just about anybody.
