    in Television

One of the big controversies from season one ‘Empire’ has been the off-camera debate of the use of the “N” word on the show. Empire star Terrence Howard has said its time to get real about the “N” word on TV and drop the stigma surrounding the word making the hip- hop drama more authentic. Costar Taraji P. Henson has said she is against it.“N*gga” - We’ve all heard and sometimes even have used the words but when is it ok and when it is not? Why do some elders cringe while some youth have embraced these words without feeling any stigma? Is it ok for Black folk to use the N word but not Whites? Would “Empire” be any more authentic if Lee Daniels used the “N” word? And what about those other words like B*tch, Fag, etc.? Tim'm T. West is a poet, scholar, rapper, and youth activist who was born in Cincinnati and raised primarily in rural Arkansas. Tim’m brings hip hop to the table and will probably be able to talk about how the younger generation perceives all the words that are considered Taboo by many. M Shelly Conner, PhD is the Executive Director of Quare Square Collective, Inc., she teaches Writing and Literature at Loyola University Chicago. Shelly brings more of the history and understanding of the exploration of the words so freely used by us all.
Empire Talks, CWT4R Talks, now how about you, will you Talk?

Show Wednesday, April 15th starts at 8:30est/7:30cst, call into 347-215-8985 and Press 1 to take part in the conversation.

    The empire strikes in Ferguson

    in Writing

Philip K. Dick warned us about the Empire.  It never ended.  We are the Roman Empire reborn.  He was a targeted individual, and so are you.  The elite are now targeting everybody, including some of their own lackeys.  Even one of the Rothschilds was found dead under suspicious circumstances.

Mystery Author, Max E. Stone Joins Kori on the Back Porch

    in Writing

Max doesn't remember ever not creating a story, pen or no pen. A writer and lover of books since the age of nine, Max first set pen to page as a hobby, constructing stories that were anything but fit for children. Entertaining classmates while simultaneously concerning surrounding adults with blood-ridden tales of gory mysteries and heavy suspense that "just came to mind", Max, with the help of family and the encouraging words of an inspiring fifth grade teacher, continued to develop this gift.

Little was it known at the time, but said gift would become a lifeline.

From horrific trauma  in Max's teen years, writing played an instrumental part in the difficult recovery and the  Warrens, Bennetts, and Johnsons, three interconnected families all with issues, mysteries, and secrets that threaten their livelihood and lives, were born.

Though relatively new to the publishing game, Max reads everything and everyone and relishes the journey, learning something new each day.

Author Lorraine Pestell Joins Kori on the Back Porch

    in Writing

Lorraine Pestell was born in London and has lived and worked as an IT professional all over the world, including the UK, several European capitals, the USA and Singapore, before moving to Melbourne, Australia, for the turn of the millennium.  Having suffered from chronic clinical depression since childhood, and later diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder after a violent marriage and other challenging events, she turned to creative writing as therapy and to escape from the world.

A passionate advocate for mental health awareness and rational suicide, Lorraine has two main goals for her writing:  first, to inspire fellow sufferers to rise above their symptoms and make a success of their lives; and second, to encourage non-sufferers to tolerate, support and even love those afflicted with mental illness in their quest to live a "normal" life.

The six-part contemporary fiction serial, "A Life Singular", is truly Lorraine's life's work, starting out as an adolescent romance in her early teens.  It has since become six long books exploring the human mind and social justice, wrapped in the universal theme of love and our endless fascination for celebrity.  Parts One to Four are available now, with Part Five due for release in March 2016.
