Drum Therapy and the DAD Program with Pat Gesualdo

    in Youth

Today's special  guest, Pat Gesualdo, is the pioneer of the groundbreaking techniques of Drum Therapy and for his celebrated non-profit organization DAD (Drums and Disabilities).  Drum Therapy and the Program help the special-needs population with cognitive development and cognitive restructuring by replacing negative thoughts with positive thoughts.

The negativity that surrounds the special-needs child can be overwhelming. Most of these children are told they are stupid, dumb, or lazy by their parents, teachers, and/or friends. This can occur on a daily basis.  Many special-needs children, especially those from the inner city, have no support system at all. This creates a huge problem for them and for society as a whole. Negative thoughts become a major cause of low self-esteem, which then turns into negative behavior.

Pat is here today to explain more about how Drum Therapy helps children to develop and keep a positive outlook, and tell us about the many ways Drum Therapy is used to help children all over the world.

Pat Gesualdo is also an award-winning drummer, author ofThe Art Of Drum Therapy, and clinician who has performed and recorded for various Columbia, Warner Brothers, Atlantic, RCA, and Paramount Pictures artists and special projects. He was nominated to Who’s Who In America and was an associate voting member for the Grammy Awards.

Soul Ambassador MELVIN DAVIS visits This Side of the River - TONY COPELAND HOST

    in Music

Tune in for another Historic Segement with one of Detroit's music Legends MELVIN DAVIS!!

Excerpt taken from DETROIT METRO TIMES

    By Michael Hurtt

CLICK ABOVE HYPERLINK TO READ ENTIRE ARTICLE

It's easy to overlook, or not hear, Davis' vast musical contributions, because this giant was unjustly somewhat under the radar in the '60s and early '70s radio mainstream. But he was certainly there all along. He's the impossibly funky drummer behind guitarist Dennis Coffey and organist Lyman Woodard on the legendary, sample-worthy single "River Rouge"/"It's Your Thing"; the evocative lead vocalist on the 8th Day's AM soul staple "You've Got to Crawl (Before You Walk)"; the songwriter who penned J.J. Barnes' desperate ode "Chains of Love," which — in the hands of Detroit rock band the Dirtbombs — served as the musical centerpiece of the 2007 Julian Schnabel art-house film The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. Songwriter royalties aside, Davis is still not a household name.

Hybrid Jazz From Trish Hennessey - with KENYA!

    in Music

First, let's thank awesome promotions "star", Jason Gorov, for the introduction!  Jason sent "Let Me" by Kenya in 2015 and yours truly listened HARD.  That song popped off the page.  Then, hearing other tracks from "My Own Skin" was more confirmation.  During the holiday season, our guest's take on "Little Drummer Boy" knocked dozens of socks OFF all over the country and the world.  Kenya was on a mission to convey that treasured piece in HER way - and we felt the emotion.

This enterprising artist has been working hard for some time.  Not only a superb vocalist (trained by the same legendary coach as Dianne Reeves), Kenya is also a songwriter, clinician, educator and Mom.  She knows how to balance the plates in the air - and shows up EARLY, if you dig what that means ;)

A native of Denver, this powerhouse had a Dad who made SURE that she appreciated Jazz.  Calvin McGuire used to be a drummer and worked alongside Marvin Gaye.  Growing up, she heard Billie and Grover - but she also was drawn to Minnie Riperton and Stevie Wonder.  HE was a true inspiration.  Jazz, Soul and Pop/Rock - Kenya appreciated The Police and Robert Palmer, too.  Her love of music and her ability resulted in participation in city-wide choirs in middle school.  At Howard University in D.C., she was involved in the esteemed Gospel choir there.

With a Bachelor's in Physical Therapy and a Masters in Counseling and Student Development, she had all the tools that she needed to succeed financially.  But she missed music.  A life-changing retreat in Sedona, Arizona, paved her renewed spiritual journey.  After two EPS - now, "My Own Skin", Kenya is exactly where she needs to be.  Success on multiple charts is God's way of letting her know that the world is READY!  Join us on 2/2 - and meet Kenya!
