Terri Lyne Carrington arranged and produced
Natalie Cole’s last recording titled “Come
Sunday,” featured on Carrington’s current CD, The Mosaic Project: LOVE and SOUL, released in August 2015. “Come Sunday” is Duke Ellington’s sacred classic, which was originally made popular by Mahalia Jackson.
Terri initially met Natalie Cole as a teenager
Terri also performed with Ms. Cole on the
The Mosaic Project: LOVE and SOUL presents Carrington leading a rotating cast of superb female instrumentalists and vocalists that includes Oleta Adams, Natalie Cole, Paula Cole, Lalah Hathaway, Chaka Khan, Chanté Moore, Valerie Simpson, Nancy Wilson, Jaguar Wright and Lizz Wright, as well as saxophonist Tia Fuller, trumpeter Ingrid Jensen; bassists Meshell Ndegoecello and Linda Oh; and keyboardists Geri Allen, Patrice Rushen and Rachel Z.
On The Mosaic Project: LOVE and SOUL, Carrington juxtaposes her salute to female artists by paying homage to various male artists who have either influenced her professionally and/or informed her musicality, such as Nick Ashford, George Duke, Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra, Luther Vandross and Bill Withers. “Whenever I do something that celebrates women, I never want it to feel like it’s something that excludes men,” she explains. “On this record, I consciously wanted to celebrate the various relationships women have with men either through original songs of mine or cover songs by male composers and song writers.” The male presence and perspective on The Mosaic Project: LOVE and SOUL is even more realized by Billy Dee Williams, who contributes insightful spoken-word interludes through the disc.

Terri is the first woman to win a GRAMMY Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album (2013) for Money Jungle: Provocative in Blue album, a tribute project to Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus and Max Roach

Terri Corcoran is a boomer (61) and a full-time caregiver for her husband who has been
severely disabled mentally and physically for most of their marriage, which is still going at 13 years (second marriage for both). He has a genetic neurodegenerative condition called Fragile-X Tremor Ataxia Syndrome (FXTAS).
She will also tell us about her husband's condition, FXTAS, which was not discovered and identified by researchers until 2001. It took 5 years to diagnose him correctly - it is not an uncommon condition which can begin in the 50s - but many people do not know about it, and it is not properly agnosed. If suspected, it can be diagnosed easily with a DNA test.
Terri has written and spoken about the tremendous challenges of spousal care giving. She must not only provide intensive care, but has virtually lost communication with her husband. She has done well, though, by the grace
of God and the Well Spouse Assn. She will tell us about the Well Spouse Assn., a non-profit, peer-to-peer support organization, providing emotional support and other resources for spousal caregivers - it is the only organization of its kind. Well Spouse are always trying to reach out to others in this very difficult situation, so they can find that they are not alone; of course, many the members are Baby Boomers.
Diane Corcoran, R.N., Ph.D. Col. USA (Ret) is the current (2012) president of the International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS) organization. She received her Ph.D in Nursing management from the University of Texas in 1981.
Corcoran became interested in near-death phenomena in 1969, as an army field nurse in Vietnam, when injured soldiers first started telling her about them. She left the military to pursue her doctorate at the University of Texas at Austin and to continue her interest in near-death phenomena-- particularly as experienced by soldiers and by children. Corcoran is a contributor to When Ego Dies: A Compilation of Near-Death and Mystical Conversion Experiences and the lead investigator in the Combat Veteran NDE Project.
Guest Terri Johnson is a Film Director, Author and Advocate for Molested Children.

You may have just viewed a brief description of Renee Rosnes within the parameters of this page. Trust and believe, you cannot be BRIEF when describing her talent! She has been noted as both pianist and composer for a long time - and we bless the day that she moved to New York from Vancouver in order to facilitate her reputation :)
Renee is also an arranger - please make note. And she is The "Go-To" goddess on keys for the filet mignon of artists within Jazz circles. Joe Henderson, Buster Williams, Wayne Shorter, Bobby Hutcherson. They'll TELL you. James Moody asked her to join his elite circle of musical friends in 1989. Renee was with his band until his passing in 2010.
As well as her own endeavors, Renee has taken part in grand events that would exhaust mere mortals. She has been music director for prestigious affairs (one in particular comes to mind to honor her late, beloved boss, James Moody). She has produced at Lincoln Center, has been involved with the SF Jazz Collective, has interviewed for the "Jazz Times", and has hosted her own radio show for Canada's CBC.
Please let her website do the talking, though. One perusal at her "performances" page and you'll see the kinds of company that she keeps. With Jimmy Greene, with Cecile McLoren Salvant, Anat Cohen, Ingrid Jensen, Terri Lyne Carrington, and a mainstay in her life: Ron Carter. One of the most wonderful decisions that Renee has made in her career is to consciously seek out those with whom she has a connection - rare legends have asserted that they have a connection with RENEE. It's no surprise that this amazingly intuitive artist has won multiple Juno Awards. With a birthday coming in March - and with all of these fabulous CD release shows, there is MUCH to celebrate! Join us on 2/9 - and we'll do JUST that!
