By the beginning of Ronald Reagan?s two term tenure in 1981, Hip-Hop had already learned from an early age that the system was against it. Birthed in the Bronx, Hip-Hop?s home had witnessed a cross-town freeway pummel through half of its borough, and the other half go up in flames caused by faulty electric wiring and slum lords cashing in on insurance policies. Amongst the despair, Hip-Hop still managed to thrive on the musical expression of its DJ maestros, the acrobatic expression of its b-boy dancers, the visual expression of its graffiti writers, and the vocal expression of its crowd motivators. To any rapper?s delight, The Sugar Hill Gang released one of Hip-Hop?s first singles and propelled them to the spotlight. But the now that there was spotlight, they needed to shine it on a message.
Enter Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five. Over drums, bass, and an infamous synthesizer, the first man to call himself an MC, Grandmaster Mele Mel recited the ills of his community and hardships he faced living within it on “The Message”. Mele Mel was an instrumental part in the song being released as well as broadening the spectrum of Hip-Hop content and awareness. This was in 1982.
Twenty-five years later, Hip-Hop music has broken the borders of boroughs to reach as far as Britain and Brazil. The culture is now a billion dollar industry that caters to the senses: hearing the latest tracks while watching your favorite channel. Nowadays, a consumer is only a few clicks away from getting in touch with their favorite artist. But if Hip-Hop tastes so sweet, what stinks? Maybe it?s how that same industry leaves its pioneers to the side like Monday?s trash.
On today's show I focus on the Republican function of the odious and horrid anti-Latino bigot, Steve King, Republican congressman from Iowa. His function, co-sponsored by the Tea Party, featured Republican presidential hopefuls who sought to pander to the white supremacist tastes of the Tea party and Steve King. But first I discuss how recently there were Pro-Life rallies across the nation and in Washington DC and I contrast that Pro-Life agenda and the commentary made by those rally attendees who remark that "Life is a gift" which is fully correct and compare that with the conduct and the remarks of the Culture of Death, among which is the Tanton network of anti-immigration and white supremacist organizations. Which leads us back to Steve King, who along with Jeff Sessions, Ted Cruz and Rand Paul are all ardent advocates of the Tanton Network and their anti-immigration agendas. It is shocking to me also that the Tea Party types claim to be "Pro-Life" while they take their guidance from the culture of death organization, Tanton Network, and use horrible terms like "anchor baby" and I've actually heard them say things like, "You can have your baby, just not here (in America). I go on to read an article by an author in Iowa who reports that Iowa no longer picks winners but only picks Republican losers since Steve King took the leadership there. I agree and am glad someone has pointed it out. In contrast, Jeb Bush stayed away from this function and continues to tout a campaign based upon CIR and Education Reform. I'm glad and point that no one running for President now, either GOP or Democrat is also doing so. I assert that the Bush campaign will serve as a fulcrum or wedge inside the GOP and will soon demonstrate which direction the GOP will go: With the Tea party and failure or away from them and back to the Latino embrace.
A little about me: I've been a finalist in a cooking demonstration competition, prepped and plated up food alongside some famous Food Network chefs, volunteered at large food and wine charity events, and judged at World Food Championships competitions in California and the Finals in Las Vegas. But my greatest passion is for quality food that doesn't bust the average family's budget!
I am not a vegetarian, but I do like to balance my diet by eating healthier during the week. So, I observe #MeatlessMondays and #FishFridays because it's not just healthy, but also economical (and good for the environment)! If you're a die-hard meat-eater like me, you won't give up meat for even one meal a week unless the dish tastes great. So I search out dishes where you don't feel like it's missing something or lacking flavor!
I will also talk about what you can do with things on sale, or re-purposing leftovers. I once fed a hungry group of 20 poker players a corned beef & cabbage dinner on St. Patrick's Day, (yes, mostly men) for only $20. And a few went back for second and third helpings!
I have met some very cool, fun people in the food industry, and I hope I'll be able to share their stories - - starting with my own! I'll also tackle some of the food news or trends that pop up and share my take on these fads, while sharing information and recipes.
I have no formula set in stone about how this show will go moving forward, so if I get a lot of interest, I may address questions on air that you send to me! So please tell your friends about this show and let's have some fun while we save money!

We are back and more excited than ever to kick off our winter 2015 show series, which will examine restaurants that have catering arms too. It’s a growing segment of the industry and one that has not been properly explored – how to create a great relationship with a restaurant (for smaller private parties) that also has a catering arm for the larger ones.
“Restaurants, Private Rooms and Catering too!” will cover the small but burgeoning market of restauranteurs that do it all and well. Tune in on Wednesday, January 14th at noon as BOTH the Director of Catering Sales, Sarah Weisman, and in-house Director of Private Events, Jodi Lynn, for Epicurean Events join us. Wondering if you should host your next dinner in a private room or at home? We will answer that question, explore cost structures and private space possibilities in the Epiucrean group, which also owns four restaurants in New York: dell’anima, L’Artusi, L’Apicio and Anfora. The Italian inspired cuisine is driven by seasonal products and high caliber service that focuses on being friendly rather than formal; the Italian seeking guests are driven by the amazing tastes, homemade burrata and exceptional customer service.
After covering everything you ever wanted to know about liquor in our last series, it is time to discover where to find the best food to pair with those cocktails you now know all about!
