Althea Romeo-Mark, the Author, Educator, Poet, and World Traveler, is so much more. To those titles, one can add wife, mother, grandmother, and much more. In a capsule, Althea is a people-person, whether family, friends, or strangers (friends she hasn't gotten to know yet). Born in Antigua, West Indies, Althea grew up in the US Virgin Islands. She is an educator who lived in the USA; Liberia, West Africa; London, England and presently lives in Switzerland. She has published short stories and poems in the Virgin Islands (The Caribbean Writer), Liberia, Puerto Rico, the USA, Germany, Norway, England, and Switzerland. Althea's work vividly depicts the phases of her life as an immigrant and her cultural experience in her book; her poems are interwoven into a personal essay, A Home with Endless Space. It contemplates the meaning of home as she comes from a line of immigrants and was born on a Caribbean Island, raised on another, did her graduate studies in the USA, then moved to Liberia, West Africa, where she lived for 14 years. Once a month at The Gumbo Cafe, we plan on bringing you the other side of both Diyah and I. We'll be highlighting new artist and having a bit of girl talk. THIS WEEK our special guest is DAMIEN NOVA!
Damien Nova was born in Switzerland and reared by a military mom who was heavy into music; particularly opera and jazz. Expressing interest in music, he was forced into class early taking ballet, piano, violin, and guitar at the age of 6. Later influenced by Jazz and Classical greats but raised in the elctronic "house" scene of the 80s and 90s, he honed the style of music he produces today; largely released in Europe, Korea, and Japan. Now his "Funktronica" or "Funk Punk," as he calls it, is primed for an American takeover.
