All major news outlets in the past few days have related stories of the bird flu and it’s ravages on poulty producers throught the Mid-West reporting some 40 million birds have died or put down due to contamination. It’s not just chickens, the turkey population is also now affected. Should you be worried? Is there a reason to be concerned for your health? Where is the virus now, can it be stopped or contained? We all watched a few years back as Asia and the Middle East battled with Avian Flu and wondered then when or if it would arrive here. Well it’s here and it’s affecting birds, millions of them. The cost is skyrocketing with predictions that US consumers will pay an additional 7 to 8 million dollars more for eggs and chicken meat. What will the economic and health toll be? Tune in and lets talk turkey, literally.

    Kevin Stabinsky,"Pearls Before Swine"

    in Books

I became interested in writing during my freshman year in college (fall 1998). I was deeply involved in playing Ancient Anguish, a text- based fantasy multi-user dimension (MUD) game. One of the perks of completing enough quests in the game was the opportunity to become a coder for the game.

The joy at seeing my creation come to life got me interested in the creative process, so I decided to pursue a degree in creative writing from Penn State University. I joined the Penn State Schuylkill Campus Collegiate staff, interned at PA Business Central and Voices of Central Pennsylvania, and became a summer correspondent for the Pottsville Republican.

In Dec. 2002, I graduated from Penn State University with a B.A., English, with an emphasis in nonfiction writing. Following graduation, I enlisted in the Army as a print journalist. During my roughly 6 years in the Army, I covered multiple story types (sports, hard news, features), earning several awards. My work has appeared in multiple newspapers worldwide to include Military.com (readership: 6,023,048); Stars and Stripes, Washington, DC (readership: 1,000,000); and the Associated Press, New York, NY. One of my stories, Girl Waits for Second Chance to See, made the front cover of Stars and Stripes.

My work in the Army garnered me numerous awards, including the 2007 U.S. Army Forces Command runner-up Journalist of the Year (one of the top 14 journalists Army wide), 2005 Installation Management Southwest Region Journalist of the Year (one of the top seven journalists Army-wide). Other individual Army awards include editor of the 2007 top Army field publication, second place in 2007 for story series, and second place in 2006 for feature articles.

I am also a graduate of the Christian Writers Guild and have had work published in devotionals such as Soul Journey.

"SOME GOOD CRAIC " - with Ice Wagon Flu

    in Music

On Wdenesday night 4/1/15 at 8 pm Some Good Craic is back LIVE with special guest Ice Wagon Flu - I've seen these guys play many times over the years and they know how to get a crowd going . Kev will be calling in to talk about the band and what they got going on . And i'll be playing some of their tunes . Jonny Ra will be on later in the show as well with the News From The Emerald Isle That'll Make You Smile !!!

Icewagon Flu, where did this name come from?

Back in the days when the icebox was the best form of refrigeration, icemen would deliver large blocks ice in horse-drawn wagons. Chunks of ice were placed in the icebox which became the predecessor to the modern day refrigerator. The good-neighbored iceman would supply his frozen goods with a grin on his face and an outstretched hand. Often the unassuming civil servant, would receive an extra “tip” from lonely housewives. And the telltale sign of their secret tryst was a nasty case of “icewagon flu.”"Icewagon Flu plays fast and loose with the traditional songs of our culture, with marvelous results. Nancy Whiskey goes under the sonic knife as a boozy bar maid and emerges as a Riot Grrrl, thanks to crunchy alt-rock guitars and slurred vocal. Fields of Athenrysounds like something REM might chance---should we re-christen it 'Fields of Athens, GA?' Waxie's Darglehas a funky jam-band beat interspersed with pipes and flutes! Imagine that! Off the Wagon takes these beloved tunes into a back alley, roughs them up, and makes them into modern rock gems.

    Colloidal Nanosilver 101

    in Medicine

Did you know 95% of all products claiming to be colloidal silver are just not so? Did you know that the correct use of true colloidal silver can allow you to avoid any type of illness and pathogen from any strain of Influenza to Ebola and everything in between? Did you know that the higher the ppm the less effective the silver product? Did you know that if silver is not taken daily that one is not using the right silver properly? Did you know there is no correlation to taking silver after the onset of sickness and getting better?

Colloidal silver is so simple and is meant to be so. True colloidal silver, taken daily, is a virtual guarantee against almost any pathogen...

Russians don't take flu shots, they take colloidal silver...I have not heard of an Influenza outbreak in Russia, have you?

Did you know that all astronauts on the International Space Station drink silver treated water? That is why they can stay in a closed environment for months and never get sick.

If you think you can make colloidal silver at home, you are poorly informed. You can make IONIC silver at home. If you have one of those little machines and think you are making colloidal silver, you will feel silly and want your money back.

Genuine nanosilver is available for less than 30.00 per quart. Find out which products are real and which are fake.

Amazon.com has hundreds of products labeled as colloidal silver...we have lab results proving they are fakes!

How I Avoided Prednisone Withdrawal And Its Side Effects

    in Health

A crazy thing happened to me last month. I ran out of prednisone and had to stop taking it, cold turkey.

Many of you know that you don't just go off prednisone cold like that. You're supposed to wean yourself slowly, or risk serious withdrawal symptoms.

In prednisone withdrawal, you can experience fatigue, flu-like symptoms, mood dips, inflammation and swelling, among other symptoms.

All of these symptoms flare up while your body gets used to making its own cortisol again.

Some quick background info on me: Seventeen years ago my diagnosis was autoimmune disease. Over the years, my symptoms have included rheumatoid arthritis in every joint of my body including my neck and rib cage, along with brain and nervous system symptoms, skin rashes, hormone imbalances, etc. Some doctors have told me that my autoimmune disease was triggered by lyme disease, and is now considered chronic lyme disease.

It's complicated, I know. What else is new?

So anyway, back to the prednisone. I was almost off of it, finally, after using it for a flare in symptoms that I experienced this past winter.

I ran out on a Friday. I thought I had another full bottle in the bathroom cabinet somewhere. But I could not find it anywhere! My prescription didn't have any refills and my doctor's office wouldn't be open until Monday.

I freaked out. This meant that my knees and fingers and wrists were going to swell. I was going to get night chills and a sore throat.

I went into emergency mode and...

You'll have to listen to the episode to find out more!
