Susan Thixton -Deciphering The Diamond Pet Food Recall
In a press release issued on April 6, 2012, “Diamond Pet Foods voluntarily recalled a limited number of dry dog food bags due to a potential health risk. Recall is limited to one formula of Diamond Naturals distributed to 12 states; no illnesses reported.”
The situation became more intense as more details were revealed and more products were added. Pet food activist and expert, Susan Thixton has been investigating this recall, trying to help petsumers find out what they really need to know and which products to avoid.
“The original recalls were for dog food only, cat food was not mentioned. But somewhere along this process, cat food began being recalled too - without much public warnings. The information still isn't clear about cat foods. The Diamond Recall Information website states "certain batches of several brands of dog and cat food produced in its Gaston, South Carolina plant" have been recalled. However as of this posting, none of the notices on the Diamond Recall Information website provides the specific information which brands of cat food are included”-Susan Thixton

Susan Thixton-Please Remove Jerky Treats From Retail Shelves
It was only 5 years ago that, the USA and Canada suffered the largest pet food recall in history due to the use of Melamine. This additive is used for the purpose of increasing protein levels when added to vegetable proteins such as corn, soy and wheat. Subsequently, melamine is lethal to cats and dogs yet it is still being used! In fact, it was the primary reason for import refusal for numerous products including Jerky Treats all within the last several months.
Recently, the FDA released a pet food safety video which according to expert, Susan Thixton, is full of misleading statements. Susan also researched the entire list of imported foods, both human and for pets which were rejected due to melamine. She has pleaded to no avail with major retailers who continue to sell these products to remove them from the shelves until there is solid proof that these pet products are not harmful. In support of Susan's efforts, The Organic View left an invitation to Walmart's public relations voicemail on Thursday to join the conversation during this interview.
Susan is taking action! She has now waged a campaign for pet parents to take action to protect our pets. In a letter to the FDA, she wrote, “our pleas to retailers to pull the treats are not helping. Any advice the FDA can share would be helpful.”
If the imported pet food contains ingredients that are toxic to our pets, what can we do about it if there is no cooperation from the regulatory agencies, the manufacturer or the retailers? Can pet parents do something to protect their animal companions from consuming these potentially toxic treats and foods? Tune in to this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, as host, June Stoyer is joined by special guest, Susan Thixton, Founder of Truth About Pet Food about how you can take action! Stay tuned!

Susan Thixton -Imported Pet Food: Was Melamine Found Again?
In 2007, the USA and Canada suffered the largest pet food recall in history due to the use of Melamine found in imported pet food from China. Melamine is an additive that was used for the purpose of increasing protein levels when added to vegetable proteins such as corn, soy and wheat. Subsequently, Melamine is lethal to cats and dogs. As a result, it is estimated that 300,000 pets suffered and died in just the US and Canada according to international pet food expert Susan Thixton.
It is the five year anniversary of the deadliest pet food recall in history. On March 16, 2007, Menu Foods announced a pet food recall that eventually led to thousands of pet deaths and long term illness and made melamine a household word. And now melamine is resurfacing; found to be the reason for import refusal for numerous products including Jerky Treats all within the last several months.
Recently the FDA released a pet food safety video which according to expert, Susan Thixton, is full of misleading statements. If the imported pet food contains ingredients that are toxic to our pets, what can we do about it? What action can pet parents take to protect their animal companions from consuming these toxic treats and foods?
