    Masterclass:Nancy Beiman/Animation Director/Character Designer

    NANCY BEIMAN was a member of the first graduating Character Animation class at the California Institute of the Arts in 1979. Since then she has worked as an animator, director, character designer, storyboard artist, illustrator, and producer in feature films, television, commercials, and game animation.  She has worked for the Walt Disney, Warner Brothers, Gerhard Hahn, Amblimation, and Greg Ford studios and cofounded Caged Beagle productions with partner Dean Yeagle.  She is the author of two books:  PREPARE TO BOARD! Creating Story and Characters for Animated Features and Shorts (Elsevier, 2012) and ANIMATED PERFORMANCE: bringing imaginary animal, human and fantasy characters to life. (Bloomsbury Press, 2015).  She has taught animation masterclasses in Colorado, Singapore, and Taiwan. Nancy teaches second year Storyboard classes and mentors senior student projects in the BA Animation Program at Sheridan College, Oakville, Canada. A few of her students will also we part of the discussion.     Aleksander Bach is a son of a polish photographer and emigrated with his parents from
    Poland to Germany in the early 80’s where he is still based today.As alumni of Institute for Music and Media in Düsseldorf he graduated with a degree in A/V Engineering and a diploma in classical piano, utilizing his dual skillset in his early career as a director. It led to multiple opportunities in Asia doing music videos and music documentaries before venturing into advertising after his Postgraduate Studies at acclaimed film academy at Baden-Württemberg / Ludwigsburg. His work is visual and sensorial with a unique language, taking his background in music and engineering, blending it with character-driven elements that showcase excellent storytelling. This has resulted in working with major clients like RWE, Mercedes-Benz, Nike, Nivea and Red Cross, winning multiple awards including Young Director Award in Cannes 2008 and 2009, New York Festival Gold Award in 2010 and Art Directors Club Awards in both 2010 and 2011.     Artist Andrea Dopaso was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her mother, Norma Lado, is a well-known music composer, and her father a Doctor in Psychiatry. At age 15, she began studying with master Anselmo Piccoli, a well-established constructivism and geometric painter, who quickly became her mentor.  She studied under Mr. Piccoli's tutelage for almost a decade; and he was the first to present her work to the art world. During the same period she received her master of Architecture and Urban design (1989) Universidad Nacional de Buenos Aires. Andrea moved to Los Angeles in 1990, where she resides today. It wasn't long before she expanded her career, working as a Designer and Concept Illustrator on such major motion pictures as American Beauty, The Life of Pi, Star Trek -the future begins- ,where she had the chance in a life time of creating the concepts illustrations for the interior of the new Enterprise, with production designer Scott Chambliss.  Also in her resume : Angels & Demons,  Spiderman 1, 2 and 3,  Oz, Iron Man 3, Coraline and more. Hollywood gave her the opportunity to combine her love for painting and drawing with her love for architecture, and it provided the funding for her to create the incredible. Her work had been published in many books,   The Art of Oz the Great and Powerful by Grant Curtis, The Making of Life of Pi, Angels & Demons, Star Trek to name but a few. You can email your questions to 123filmeasy@gmail.com or follow us on Twitter @123Film

    After graduating from The University of Southern California, Pam was hired by CBS Television. After a few months, she became Assistant to the Head of Casting. Six months later, she left CBS Television to become Vice President of Casting for ABC Television. A year later, she was promoted to Senior Vice President of Casting for the ABC Television Network. Pam left ABC Television to become a Production Vice President for Paramount Pictures under Michael Eisner. After several years as a motion picture and television executive, Pam decided to open her own casting company. For the last several years, Pam has been an independent feature Casting Director.During this time, she has cast numerous features. Pam has just completed six episodes of the television series “Sensitive Skin” for HBO Canada. Pam’s current projects are  All I See Is You directed by Marc Forester, Hunter Killer  directed by Martin Campbell and The Drowsy Chaperone starring Geoffrey Rush. Pam is completing casting on an additional six episodes of “Sensitive Skin”. She has worked with many talented directors such as: Robert Altman, Alan Rudolph, Martin Campbell, Tom Hooper and Barry Levinson. Pam is a past President of The Casting Society of America, position she held for six years. She served on the Board of Trustees of The Wildwood School as chair of fundraising and as a Trustee of Pacific Hills School in West Hollywood. She teaches at UCLA in the Entertainment Studies Department and lectures at The Los Angeles Film School, Harvard University and USC. She is a member of the Media Access Task Force and is currently on The Western Council of the Actors Fund.
