There are some good and bad things about attending a first year convention. As I sat in attendance at the inaugural Super Smash Con (#SSC) I can truthfully say they are on their way to be one of the best conventions of its genre.
Super Smash Con is a Nintendo fan event brought to life by Justin Wykowski who took a long hard look at many different conventions he had attended in the past and took what he saw both good and bad and put together an excellent product. Super Smash Con is comprised of various Nintendo themed attractions with the primary basis being the fan base behind the popular Nintendo family of games based on Super Smash Bros.
With a number of Nintendo and classic video game vendors, presentations on competitive gaming, independent game developers, music and much more to enjoy Super Smash Con has a lot for a person to enjoy. Highlighted by a free to play classic game arcade, a history of Nintendo display, Cosplay contest, and a competitive tournament with over 800 participants there is something for everyone
Being in attendance allowed me to look back and relive a few of my own nostalgic Nintendo moments. Seeing early versions of the original Game Boy and Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Game Cube, and Nintendo Games of the past makes you appreciate how far technology has brought enjoyment to many over the years. Although this event isn’t a sanctioned or official Nintendo event, I personally think Nintendo should reach out to the show organizers and provide a little support because this is a welcome and refreshing addition to the video game convention scene.
Special Thanks to W. Seth J. Wheeler the Community Manager for Super Smash Con taking the time out of his busy schedule for providing me the information and giving me a great look at all Super Smash Con had to offer this weekend.
Back by Popular Demand Elana and Steven dive in to the second episode of The Venture Bros. called "Maybe No Go". The Venture Bros. cartoon on Adult Swim references everything from Hannah-Barbara to Marvel, David Bowie to the Big Bopper, cult cinema, Oscar Wilde to Henry Kissinger. The show’s central theme is failure-- the reality of life after the promises and optimism of the 60s space age have faded. But also the positive value of failure as a way to learn and grow, of making unpleasant realities better, and ultimately whether you can learn to keep the joyfulness of youth without its illusions.
In this podcast episode Elana and Steven continue to explore the series as pop culture history geeks, talking about the latest episode, drawing out themes and references.
Join Kelli and Claudia as they recap the Super Bowl, deconstruct stupid tweets, and review yet another great band, Adelitas Way. This week is sure to be fun, funny, and who wants to miss fun AND funny, all at the same time?! No one!
It was bowling-shoe ugly as Dre predicted, with defense ruling the day, and it featured by far the worst numbers for a Super Bowl winning QB. But the Broncos suffocated the Panthers, making a winner out of Peyton Manning and losers out of Dre and Jay. The boys discuss what went right for Denver, what went wrong for Carolina, why the commercials were so terrible, and anything else pertinent to the Big Game.

Now that Super Bowl 50 is over and a champion of the National Football League has been crowned, it is time to look back on the season that was with an eye towards the next one. Be sure to check out the 300lbsofsportsknowledge Show as I will be recapping Super Bowl 50 with an eye towards the 2016 NFL season.
If you didnt watch the Super Bowl yesterday man did you miss out! Not only was there a great game and commericals but the halftime was epic! Beyonce, Bruno Mars, and ColdPlay killed the halftime performance. Cam Newton post game response on the other hand wasn't quite what we thought... In other non-super bowl news Kayne announced he has a secret album title, Beyonce released her new video, Rihanna is set to perform at the Grammy's, and there's maybe proof that P. Diddy had Tupac killed. Tune in as we will put you in the mix!
