Michelle Baskett, Health Enthusiast joins us with her hands on advice on how to live healthy and have fun with it. Healthy eating & exercise is a lifestyle, you shouldn't be mentally or physically stressed just to live healthy. Let's have fun and take back our health once & for all!!
Our guest this month is international award-winning, trainer/speaker, psychotherapist, and life-coach, Gracey Lichtenstein. She works with individuals and business teams to eliminate the extraneous details that so often distract from real issues and facilitates sustainable, solution-focused change.
Through her training in both Western and Eastern health philosphies, including holistic psychotherapist, she has a comprehensive view of "what works". In addition, her diverse experience of working with thousands of people ranging from native New Yorkers to Native Alaskans and from the FBI to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has allowed her to pinpoint some of the universal characteristics of healthy individuals and teams.
While the concepts of health, productivity, and stress-reduction are complex, getting back to basics simplifies what often has become unnecessarily complicated. Gracey has created "30 Days Toward Becoming Healthy, Productive, and Stress Free" to guide people through progressive levels of development and holistic growth.
The program is broken into seven defined areas of focus. The first step is an assessment phase followed by the “High 5”:
• breathing (proper breathing and positive vs. negative stress)
• sleeping (sleep hygiene and opportunities to recharge)
• moving (healthy movement and goal setting and time management)
• eating (food as medicine and feeding the soul)
• intimate relationships (creating relationships and developing healthy intimacy)

Healthy Living Step No. 1: Take stock.
Your first step toward healthy living is to get a handle on your health status right now. Here's your to-do list:
Make appointments with your doctor and dentist. Catch up on your routine screening and immunizations, and take the opportunity to ask your doctor any questions you might have.
Gauge your girth. Measure your height and weight to check your BMI, and measure your waist circumference to see if you're overweight and if your waistline is putting your health at risk.
Assess your activity. How much physical activity do you get in a typical week? How intense is that activity? How much variety do you get in your activity, and how much do you enjoy it? The CDC recommends that adults get at least two and a half hours per week of moderate-intensity aerobic activity or one hour and 15 minutes per week of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity, plus muscle-strengthening activities at least two days per week.
Keep a food diary. Write down everything you eat for a day -- and no fair skipping the items you're embarrassed about. "The idea is to write it down ... without judgment," says Kathianne Sellers Williams, MEd, RD, LD, a nutritionist, wellness coach, and personal trainer with Cafe Physique in Atlanta. "You can't change what you're not aware of or don't acknowledge."
Sharon Steele is a single mother of two and a fitness professional with the stated mission of encouraging people to embrace a healthy active lifestyle by offering fun, safe, and effective fitness classes suitable for various ages and abilities. She first learned to ride a bicycle at age 4 and has been riding most of her life. In 2010, she participated in her first Tour de Cure event, riding the 32K in Silcon Valley. She has since ridden in the Napa Tour de Cure twice (50 and 100 miles) and rode in the very first Tour de Cure Women's Series event in Santa Barbara in 2013 completing the 67 mile course. This event catapulted her love for cycling to new heights, converting her into a true roadie and soon to be competitive cyclist.
Sharon does not have diabetes. She descends from a family where type 2 diabetes and its complications are prevalent: mother, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins. She is of the belief that leading a healthy lifestyle can greatly reduce her risk for developing the disease for which she may be genetically predisposed. Her passion is to reach those communities that are at high risk and inform them of the common complications associated with diabetes and of ways type 2 diabetes can be delayed, managed or even prevented by the lifestyle choices we make. Sharon also has several friends who live with type 1 diabetes. It is her hope that helping to raise awareness about the work of the American Diabetes Association will aid in their gaining access to more resources toward developing a cure.
