Stress, Emotional Labor and the Holidays

    in Spirituality

In life we must learn how to eliminate as much stress as possible, minimize problems, and handle or work through broken dreams.  There is no such thing as a stress free, problem free happy all the time life.  We must develop self-awareness and recognize that I am responsible for my own well-being.  Often our stress, worry and anxiety start long before the holiday season begins.  Let’s talk about what stress is, how we can identify it in ourselves, ways to reduce it.

    Liberation from Stress

    in Motivation

Counselor Mandy (Eppley) Bird speaks with author and coach Chris Saade about the importance of liberating ourselves from stress. This is critical because of the proven medical research that stress is linked to many illnesses and diseases. Mandy and Chris cover three aspects of stress: Stress of Dissemination, Profound Stress, and Failure Stress. They offer practical tools for liberating ourselves from each of these types of stress. Stress of Dissemination is when we are doing too much – trying to meet everyone’s needs. Instead, we must focus on the essential needs that must to be met. Profound Stress is when we are involved in work, projects, organizations, etc. that are opposite to our authentic nature. When we are not in harmony with ourselves, the cost is very high. When we are aligned with our heart and our authenticity we have the best chance for good health. Failure Stress is when we are not accepting our humanity and are fighting against the authenticity of life itself. Creativity happens through waves of failures and successes. Thus, we must have both of these. Failures are guiding stars to our successes. The good news is that when we liberate ourselves from stress we can experience much more joy and pleasure!

Chris Saâde is the co-director of The Olive Branch Center with his wife, Jessie Thompson, where he teaches courses on engaged spirituality. He has lead more than 200 psychological and spiritual retreats, and continues to serve as a personal Coach for individuals and couples. Chris worked as a licensed psychotherapist for 11 years in private practice specializing in depression and life transitions before migrating into the world of coaching, writing and teaching. He has written 2 books, 2nd Wave Spirituality: Passion for Peace, Passion for Justice and Prayers for Peace and Justice and 2 recordings with Andrew Harvey. www.theolivebranch.net

  • Converting post-traumatic stress to post-traumatic growth with your warrior soul

    in Lifestyle

There is a well known fact among those who have managed to heal and liberate themselves from their trauma with great resiliency. A common thread is that they all converted post-traumatic stress into post-traumatic growth - the idea that one’s trauma can actually be a source of strength and resiliency, rather than just pain and suffering.

It also happens to be something that humanity has practiced for as long as it has existed.

It’s a life practice that is not very easy to digest at first in a society where we expect life to be pristine and perfect. But once acknowledged, it can provide measures of strength and resiliency that you never thought you had and (this is the hard part) might never have found had you not faced the trauma you faced. When you face the fiery gates of hell that your trauma has led you to, no doubt you burn with pain and suffering, but in that raging heat, the inner steel in you cures and toughens. It becomes far stronger than it ever would have been had you not gone through that experience. In today's podcast we explore the idea of post-traumatic growth...

We're back with yet another day in the life of the happiest guy...my name is Sri. I'm a healer, wannabe writer, failed activist turned stand up comedian, and aspiring mama elephant. And I can't stop talking...

Professional counselor Karen Rigatti discusses some frequently asked questions:

What are the most common sources of stress for today's teen girls?

What are some of the signs of being too stressed?

What can parents do to help their teen if she is overly stressed?

How can teens learn to manage and decrease their stress?
