Cloud Storage: Making The Right Choice

    in Technology

Cloud storage is readily available and relatively inexpensive, and has become a compelling option for backups, disaster recovery, archiving, and sync-and-share services. Unfortunately, cloud storage is on the other side of the Internet from your applications, which adds significant latency and stresses your bandwidth. These challenges require organizations to make process and organizational changes—and storage pros aren’t big fans of changes.

Join storage expert Howard Marks and Interop Radio host Curt Franklin as they discuss how organizations can make the right choices around cloud storage. You’ll hear about the different cloud storage service types, get real-world use cases, and learn how to look beyond just price as a cloud driver.

Register now to get practical insights into the pros and cons of cloud storage, ask tough questions, and interact with your peers. Don’t miss Howard Marks’ tell-it-like-it-is take on storage and the cloud.

Sunday on the Front Stoop, storage of human energy...

    in Energy

Yes, you read it right, 'storage of human energy'.  Jeff has been thinking about this recently and wants to share with you the conclusions he has so far.  This is really interesting stuff and may help clearify why everyone is working longer, harder and producing more than ever before... but we have less free time and our infrastucture is coming apart.  Add your voice to this conversation.  We are just sitting around on the front stoop and talking.

This week I’m going to discuss gardening from a bit of a different perspective. There is no shortage of information out there about garden placement for maximum sun, or how to double dig your vegetable plot. You can even find more than you could possibly read about maximizing yield with companion planting, square foot gardening, vertical or container gardening, raised beds, well, you get the idea, the list goes on.

Instead, I thought I would just chat this week about how I plan my planting by keeping my storage in mind. Not only do I think about how much I need to harvest, but this also has to be balanced with what I can grow well, what methods of storage I can use to preserve it, and also keeping in mind my plans to expand my seed harvesting until I am growing all my garden from open pollinated saved seeds.

Food and the prepared life seems simple enough, however, there are so many varied aspects or aisles to travel down. There is the often first heard of, storage, how much for how long, bulk or freeze dried or? Grow your own, farmers market, coops, buying clubs? They all have something in common, they are all about food but for all the hoopla in the prepper world have you thought of what you are eating. The nutritional values, just what you are really getting for your dollar in the way of health and subsistence?

Understanding the food label and actually knowing what information it provides you can make planning and preparing a food storage program much more nutritious and easy to accomplish. Join in this Sunday as Lynna talks about the food label, how to use it, what it says and the benefit to the prepper.

Software-Defined Storage: Your Bridge to the Cloud

    in Technology

Cloud storage is a natural first step in moving your information technology infrastructue to the cloud, enabling anytime/anywhere access to enterprise data and applications for employees and business partners. Yet, it also presents an opportunity to recast your storage infrastructure, providing an opportunity to store and manage data regardless of whether storage resources are in the datacenter or with a distant cloud services provider.

This radio show on UBM Tech's The Enteprise Cloud Site will provide IT professionals with advice on how to craft, implement, and manage a Software-Defined Storage strategy, and how extending that strategy to the cloud can position their organizations for future growth and success.

Our guest speaker is Bill Kleyman, a TECS blogger and consultant with MTM Technologies. Bill has deep experience in datacenter design and management, as well as advising enterprise organizations on storage and server virtualization and implementation of cloud strategies.

In this radio show you will learn:

*How the software-defined storage concept has progressed and is delivering results to enterprise IT organizations.

*How cloud-based storage plays a key role in a successful software-defined storage strategy.

*Why data storage today extends beyond the walls of the datacenter.

*How cloud-based storage enables corporate and worker flexibility in areas such as business continuity and support for the mobile workforce.

*Where software-defined storage needs to mature, and what to expect in the year ahead.
