Interop Radio: It's All About Storage

    in Technology

One of the secret areas of exciting news in the computer world is data storage. After years of incremental progress things are changing -- and changing fast.

From the hardware on which bits are stored to the software that manages the hardware systems, 2015 is set to be a year that sees significant improvements in speed, reliability, and flexibility in storage systems for individuals, small businesses and large enterprises. Join us as we talk with noted storage expert Howard Marks about recent improvements in storage technology and what he sees on the horizon for the coming year.

Howard Marks is founder and chief scientist at Deepstorage LLC, a storage consultancy and independent test lab based in Santa Fe, N.M. and concentrating on storage and data center networking. In more than 25 years of consulting, Marks has designed and implemented storage systems, networks, management systems and Internet strategies at organizations including American Express, J.P. Morgan, Borden Foods, U.S. Tobacco, BBDO Worldwide, Foxwoods Resort Casino and the State University of New York at Purchase. The testing at DeepStorage Labs is informed by that real world experience.

He has been a frequent contributor to Network Computing and InformationWeek since 1999 and a speaker at industry conferences including Comnet, PC Expo, Interop and Microsoft's TechEd since 1990. He is the author of Networking Windows and co-author of Windows NT Unleashed (Sams).

Cloud Storage: Making The Right Choice

    in Technology

Cloud storage is readily available and relatively inexpensive, and has become a compelling option for backups, disaster recovery, archiving, and sync-and-share services. Unfortunately, cloud storage is on the other side of the Internet from your applications, which adds significant latency and stresses your bandwidth. These challenges require organizations to make process and organizational changes—and storage pros aren’t big fans of changes.

Join storage expert Howard Marks and Interop Radio host Curt Franklin as they discuss how organizations can make the right choices around cloud storage. You’ll hear about the different cloud storage service types, get real-world use cases, and learn how to look beyond just price as a cloud driver.

Register now to get practical insights into the pros and cons of cloud storage, ask tough questions, and interact with your peers. Don’t miss Howard Marks’ tell-it-like-it-is take on storage and the cloud.

Universal Storage Banks, Impulses, Subconscious, Spiritual Teaching, Wisdom

    in Spirituality

Then, words suddenly formed on my lips again, which said: “Since ancient times, you have lived among the stars”, and suddenly I knew who I was, how I am and what my mission is on this earth. And, suddenly, impulses came from somewhere, which I later recognised as impulses from the storage banks, and many good memories penetrated me and showed me the way I had to go in my life.

    in Energy

Yes, you read it right, 'storage of human energy'.  Jeff has been thinking about this recently and wants to share with you the conclusions he has so far.  This is really interesting stuff and may help clearify why everyone is working longer, harder and producing more than ever before... but we have less free time and our infrastucture is coming apart.  Add your voice to this conversation.  We are just sitting around on the front stoop and talking.

This week I’m going to discuss gardening from a bit of a different perspective. There is no shortage of information out there about garden placement for maximum sun, or how to double dig your vegetable plot. You can even find more than you could possibly read about maximizing yield with companion planting, square foot gardening, vertical or container gardening, raised beds, well, you get the idea, the list goes on.

Instead, I thought I would just chat this week about how I plan my planting by keeping my storage in mind. Not only do I think about how much I need to harvest, but this also has to be balanced with what I can grow well, what methods of storage I can use to preserve it, and also keeping in mind my plans to expand my seed harvesting until I am growing all my garden from open pollinated saved seeds.
