Are Crime Statistics Reliable?
We all use them when reporting on police brutality or the Black condition in general. But do we really know how accurate this information is? It doesn't help that one of the most quoted sources tells you up front that all information is submitted voluntarily. That's right, fbi.gov makes it very clear that "Figures used in this Report were submitted voluntarily by law enforcement agencies throughout the country." So, the people that we don't trust are the same people who we are trusting to supply us with factual and accurate data regarding police behavior? Adding insult to injury, there are even accusations of police departments manufacturing misleading stats.
You don't want to miss this show brothers and sisters.
Join Alex Primo and Asha Zuri Thursday October 22 at 9 PM EST as we examine crime stats, police data, and their accuracy and veracity.
And don't forget the brother Dennis Jefferson will be stopping by with another episode of Healthy Matters.

Inspired by baseball product Effectively Wild's recent look at the insanity that was Barry Bonds' career, the Over and Back Podcast takes a look NBA's most game-breaking player of all-time, Wilt Chamberlain.
Joined by Dan of Chamberlain Archive (@WiltCArchive), Jason and Rich detail Chamberlain's eye-popped statistics from a single game, season and career standpoints including 100+ 50-point games, 250+ 40-point games and the only 20/20/20 game ever. A detailed look at where Wilt ranked in all-time statistics upon his retirement and just how far he was ahead of his peers. The episode also includes a lengthy discussion about his record-breaking 1961-62 season as well as common criticisms and misconceptions about Wilt's career, his numbers, the competition level of his peers and the pace of play during his era. If you love stats or NBA history, this is going to be the episode for you.
The words domestic violence are usually assoiciated with an adult woman being abused by an adult male. One in four women will be affected by some form of domestic violence, in their lifetime. Domestic violence is the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and/or other abusive behavior as part of a systematic pattern of power and control perpetrated by one intimate partner against another. It includes physical violence, sexual violence, psychological violence, and emotional abuse. http://www.ncadv.org/need-support/what-is-domestic-violence.
With awareness growing, studies have been geared to teen domestic violence. The statistics are alarming. http://www.loveisrespect.org/resources/dating-violence-statistics/ Over 1.5 million high school students will experience some form of physical abuse, this year. 43% of college dating women have reported some form of abuse. These numbers only include the reported number of cases. Statistically, only 33% of those vicitims every told anyone about the abuse. Parents that were surveyed don't believe that teen domestic violence is an issue (81%). The shocking part, only 58% of parents could identify the signs of an abusive relationship.
Organizations can spread awareness, but education is needed for our teens. As of July 2014, only 22 states had some form of legislation; in place, that addresses education for teen dating violence. http://www.ncsl.org/research/health/teen-dating-violence.aspx
Spreading awareness is a step in the right direction, but without educational programs we could see these statistics continue to grow.
in Real Estate
The push to make you think things are just A-OK in the real estate market is apparently in full swing this month. Some stats were released that actually contradict themselves! So why would data get so manipulated in the first place. We are going to talk about that and see if we can't come up with some theories on why there is such a push to make folks believe certain things about the real estate market.

The Over and Back Classic NBA podcast continues its offseason series looking at the NBA’s 50 Greatest Players in history, with an examination of how to best approach evaluating historical players through the lens of statistics.
With Rich Kraetsch on assignment (probably scouring the sports libraries of America to research the NBA's elite), Jason Mann talks to Hardwood Paroxysm editor-in-chief Ian Levy about what the numbers can and cannot tell us, where statistics can fill in the blanks if footage isn't available, how we handle disparity in eras and styles of play, how much should we value being very good for a long time vs. being great for a shorter time, any players whose numbers are surprising, and much more.
