Many cities want to replicate the success of Chattanooga's gig network. But every community wanting to drive innovation should also replicate the success of Chattanooga's GIGTANK.
This summer GIGTANK turned the entire city into a test lab for the research, development AND marketing for startups from around the world. GIGTANK's director Sheldon Gizzle and the startups discuss their experiences and innovations.
GIGTANK's design, structure and execution provide valuable lessons for other communities. Our guests describe:
* how GIGTANK is structured and run; * changes from last year; * benefits of developing apps in a gig environment; and * how Chattanooga individuals and businesses participated with the startups.

Contemporary jazz and pop music scene. New York-based Atherton has opened for the likes of Chuck Loeb, Patti Austin, Tito Puente and saxophonist Najee. In 2004 her debut CD ‘Let Me Inside Your Love’ made its mark on the national contemporary jazz charts, and in 2006 a cut from this album, ‘I Long For Your Love’ was included on the compilation ‘Ladies of Jazz,’ which also featured Natalie Cole, Candy Dulfer and Eliane Elias. Mindi Abair Saxophonist/vocalist/songwriter Mindi Abair has been surrounded by talented musicians her entire life. Her paternal grandmother was an opera singer, and her father was a saxophonist and B3 player in a blue-eyed soul group called The Entertainers – a gig that kept the whole family on the road for several years throughout the early ‘70s. By the time the band broke up and the Abairs put down roots in St. Petersburg, Florida, five-year-old Mindi had already demonstrated musical aspirations of her own by taking up the piano.

Our guest is Marc Miller of Career Pivot Many baby boomers want a change, but realize you can’t just leap from one life to another. You need a series of pivots—in basketball, a move that keeps one foot firmly planted while the other swings forward. You can move toward your new career in small, practical steps that land you where you want to be. You don’t have forever to get there. We do assessment tests to uncover what you truly need to be happy—autonomy, respect, creativity—and focus your goals. We help you discover the choices that brought you to this crossroads and identify new choices that will bring you to a more satisfying career. We consider your circumstances, explore your talents, strengths and working style, and help weigh your options. We’ll work with you to design a strategy of manageable pivots toward a career you can grow with, one that will fulfill you for decades. Marc Miller’s career journey included 22 years at IBM, several thriving tech startups, a painful stint as a high school teacher, a gig raising funds for the Jewish Community Association of Austin and a near fatal bicycle accident that changed his perspective forever. Thirty years of wandering the proverbial career desert, often repeating the same mistakes over and over, taught him his most crucial lesson which he will share in this program. THREE p.m. showtime on 10/10/13! And even cooler than looking at the date is the actual SHOW :) Out of the chute, here comes California based vocalist, Mark Arthur Miller. One of the more fascinating stories you'll ever hear is from Mark. Raised by his Mom and Grandmother in Chicago, his comfort was in the music of Motown - he didn't realize that the Dad he missed so much was writing the songs that stirred his soul. Years later, Ron Miller, staff writer in those golden days of Berry Gordy's organization, would reunite with his son. Long enough to hear Mark sing those million dollar songs that were crafted in the 60's. Amazing. As is the dual life of our guest - not only is he the consummate interpreter of songs (wait until you hear these arrangements!) - but he is also an actor and tennis pro. Get set for a charming crooner to beguile and make you a believer :)
Joanna Pascale is the reason why the show starts at three! This beautiful singer/instructor is finishing up classes at Temple University - she's doing the interview - then she's leaving for her regular gig at Loew's in Philadelphia! She took the time out of her schedule to make sure that we know about the St. Michael's Jazz Festival that's happening this weekend! Joanna's in stellar company in beautiful St. Michael's - that's her trademark: stellar company. Tim Warfield, Terell Stafford, Cyrus Chestnut - a few of the amazing musicians that love to work with this gifted and loving representative of the Great American Songbook. Three musical projects and over 400 songs in her repertoire...my Philly friend WILL wow you!
Mark at three - Joanna at 4:30 - and songs to heal and delight you in between. October is simmering with a harvest of goodness...have a warm seat by The Chat Room fire...the only time you'll "CHILL" is to the music ;)
