In the Midst of the St. John Festival

    in Culture

The St. John Festival & Cultural Organization schedules 5 weeks of Caribbean Carnival celebration with a bevy of family-friendly events, including live music, local food, dancing, parades, fireworks, and more. St. John Carnivalbegins 5 Saturdays before July 4th with a steelpan music concert in Cruz Bay. Vendors of fine local crafts setup tents in Cruz Bay park while hardy folks build the stage that will showcase most of the festival events in the coming days.

June 5, 2015 is the annual Beach Jam on Cruz Bay beach. With a mix of music talents and characters, the St. John Carnival Beach Jam is a must for anyone with happy feet. One week later, Seniors strut their stuff for the Senior Variety Show on the stage in the school ball field in Cruz Bay. Cheer for your favorite acts and enjoy local food, drinks, and crafts for sale around town. The day after the St. John Carnival Senior Variety Show is the annual Festival Bike Race, starting at 8:00 am at the National Park lot next to Mongoose Junction in Cruz Bay.

The weekend comes to a close with the Festival Princess Pageant, which starts Sunday night at 6:00 pm on the stage in the ball field. Two weeks before the end of Carnival St. John really starts to heat up on the evening on June 19 with music in the school ball field starting at 9:00 pm. Return the next night to cheer on the new Carnival Queen contestants, as they vie for the coveted title starting at 8:00 pm. That Sunday kicks into gear with the opening of the food fair and Children’s Carnival Village in the national park field in Cruz Bay.

The last weekend of St. John Festival: The Adult Carnival Village opens at 7:00 pm July 3rd with music and libations. Next morning marks J’ouvert (ju-vay), a joyous street party where revelers dance at daybreak.

    WorldWide Solstice Festival LIVE!

    in Science

As THOUSANDS of people across the WORLD take part in the WorldWide Solstice Festival, we'll be sharing and discussing just a few of the FANTASTIC images and news of the events here on this episode of At The Eyepiece. We may also have founders of the WorldWide Solstice Festival, Pamela Shivak and John W ONeal II call in as well and share how their individual outreach events are going LIVE on the air!

Have a Solstice Festival, or post solar or solstice related photos! It's that easy!
Join the SOLARACTIVITY Facebook group for more worldwide events and post up your images!
    https://www.facebook.com/groups/solaractivity/

Our goal to share our love of all things solar with as many people as possible, to extend our reach, to cross cultural and ethnic lines, to share with the masses. Art, music, good food and good company will bring many more people to us and our telescopes, than an ad in a local paper advertising an astronomy outreach program.

The festival will encompass BOTH solstice dates. In June, northern hemisphere participants can do outside venues while Southern Hemisphere participants can schedule indoor activities, if weather warrants that. On the December date, we northerners can host indoor or virtual events and presentations while, our southern hemisphere participants can host their WORLDWIDE SOLSTICE FESTIVAL during their local summertime.
If there is no local festival in your area, clubs and individuals can partner with Metroparks, civic groups and/or business interests to start their own festival. You can invite musicians, bands, artists, crafts people, food vendors, solar power representatives, etc. Let your imagination be your guide! You can partner with Metroparks, Museums, libraries, your local NASA office, etc, etc

    The FilmQuest Festival Episode

    in Entertainment

Dungeon Crawlers Radio is excited to announce that we will be broadcasting live from FilmQues.  We will be sitting down and taking with Jonathan Martin coordinator of FilmQuest moments before the official kickoff!

FilmQuest is a brand new film festival for the Fantastic, put on by filmmakers for filmmakers. Heavily associated with FantasyCon (www.fantasycon.com), the festival celebrates all things fantasy, sci-fi, horror and beyond.

A competition based festival, FilmQuest accepts submissions for features, shorts, animated films, student films, music videos, fan films, tv/web series, commercials/ads, and screenplays for shorts and features. We also have the unique open competition in FilmQuest Express, while also celebrating the future of filmmaking with two student based competitions.

We are currently in talks to have the FilmQuest trophy designed by a world renowned company, and we promise the design will be breathtaking. It will surely become one of the most coveted awards on the festival circuit. As well, we are giving away a $5,000 cash prize to the Grand Prize winner, along with $2,500 for 2nd place, and $1,000 for 3rd Place. Many more prizes and awards await too.

Taking place in Salt Lake City, the first edition of FilmQuest will be held the 30th of June through the 5th of July, 2014.
