I have long called February LOVE MONTH! There is something about that Hallmark Holiday, Valentine's Day that I feel very fond of. Anytime where love becomes the focus, our hearts become the focus and people are drawn closer to each other, I'm all in!
What do you think about when you think about love? I think of God. I think of family & friends. I think of my favorite episodes of the Golden Girls! We probably all think of different things. But tell me this, do you ever think about how you do or don't show love to yourself? How do you think about yourself? What thoughts do you hold? What behaviors do you show? I want to talk about it. Join me today on The Smiley Notes.

Each year, the Stellar Awards recognize the achievements of high-profile gospel music artists and personalities. This year’s show, which aired on Easter Sunday, featured the likes of David and Tamela Mann, Rickey Smiley, Erica Campbell, Kirk Franklin, and Destiny’s Child. Click here to watch Destiny’s Child’s performance of “Always Remember Jesus” and “When Jesus Say Yes.”
What is the purpose of awards shows? Should the church encourage the world to join its cause for the "gospel’s" sake? This blogtalk show will address these questions, and more, as we draw on 2015’s Stellar Gospel Music Awards show to discuss modesty, discernment, and true commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ in the midst of a great falling away.
Demetria McKinney is a triple threat in the truest sense of the term. She is an award-winning actress who has played diverse roles on the big and small screens as well as the stage. She is a gifted singer with a rich voice requiring zero studio enhancements. And she is a skillful songwriting who thoughtfully expresses emotions in a way that instantly connects with listeners.
Widely known for her role as “Janine Payne” on the hit TBS sitcom “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne,” which has taped over 254 episodes and received five NAACP Image Awards for Best Sitcom, Demetria can currently be seen on Bravo’s “The Real Housewives Of Atlanta” as the newest cast member. Mckinney also has reoccurring roles on Lifetime’s “Devious Maids” and TV One’s “The Rickey Smiley Show” sitcom.
Even though her acting career keeps her very busy, Demetria always makes time for her first love: music. Over the past few years she has recorded and performed with artists such as Musiq Soulchild and Anthony David. Demetria has also opened for Anthony David as well as such R&B mainstays as R. Kelly, Dwele and Tank. Now, after spending time perfecting her craft and tapping fully into her musical voice, Demetria is set to release an EP – “Officially Yours” – to give music fans just a taste of what she has to offer.
Ten years ago we were introduced to Susan Smiley, her mother Millie and her sister Tina. Out of the Shadow was produced and directed by Susan. Premiering in 2005, it provided an unprecedented insight into her mother's serious mental illness, her own journey and how she and her sister have coped. The response to the film was enormous, receiving wide-spread press coverage. It continues to be required viewing in many university courses and graduate schools of public health, psychiatry, social work and nursing. It has received many awards, been translated into 12 languages and has been viewed countless times on PBS stations across the country. Tonight, we speak with Susan. She'll reflect on how the film impacted her life since she went public with her very personal and painful story. We will also discuss her current activities and interests.
Today's guest is Neil Smiley, CEO of Loopback Analytics, a pioneer in empowering hospitals and post-acute care providers to more effectively manage care transitions and reimbursement challenges in a “pay-for-outcome” environment. Loopback Analytics's vision is to serve as the management platform that helps transform health care to a performance-based model. And they promise to provide clients with reliable, cost-effective, technology-enabled solutions to improve clinical outcomes and increase patient satisfaction.
As we know, the number of narrow networks continue to increase in this area. We'll be talking to Neil to see just how he has come up with a solution to this problem.

Have you recently had friends, co-workers, or strangers suddenly get pissed off at you for what seemed like no reason at all? Maybe you told yourself that they were overreacting or being too sensitive, or that they had no right to be angry when you clearly didn't mean to do whatever you did (and in fact aren't even sure what it was). If you're a socially inept type like me, I bet you've had this happen within the last month.
or those of us who aren't great with people, we figure that silence is always the safest bet. If you're an introvert, you spend so much of your time wishing that other people would just shut the hell up that you figure you're doing everyone a favor. So, you run into a co-worker at the mall and think it's better to pass by in silence than do an awkward stop-and-chat that you'd probably screw up anyway.
Then, after you pass by this person, you hear them in the aisle behind you mutter, "Asshole."
So What's the Problem?
This is literally the most frequent social mistake I see in my day to day. You didn't 're confused because, well, who would ever assume that silence is an insult?
If you're confused, think of it this way: respond to the party invitation. You didn't reply to their funny text with a smiley. You didn't wish them a happy birthday. Now they're bitter and youIf you apply for a job, which is worse -- a rejection letter, or no reply at all? The former is bad, but the latter is dismissive, and that's a thousand times worse. (Note: By far the angriest reaction I get to hate mail is when I don't reply at all.) That's how some people take your failure to speak to them -- like you didn't even open their resume before tossing it in the trash.
