Ten years ago we were introduced to Susan Smiley, her mother Millie and her sister Tina. Out of the Shadow was produced and directed by Susan. Premiering in 2005, it provided an unprecedented insight into her mother's serious mental illness, her own journey and how she and her sister have coped. The response to the film was enormous, receiving wide-spread press coverage. It continues to be required viewing in many university courses and graduate schools of public health, psychiatry, social work and nursing. It has received many awards, been translated into 12 languages and has been viewed countless times on PBS stations across the country. Tonight, we speak with Susan. She'll reflect on how the film impacted her life since she went public with her very personal and painful story. We will also discuss her current activities and interests.

Beginning back in 1920 a different sound in music was emerging from the south, some called it Mountain Music, some Hillbilly, but it was the birth of a different sound that no lable could truly describe. Performers, the word star had not be attached to these singers as of yet. The Morris family from Georgia, two young brothers from Kentucky Bill & Charlie Monroe, Don Reno & Red Smiley,Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs, The Lilly Brothers & The Bailes Brothers From West Virginia all shaped the future of Blue Gospel Music.

dmitting that the crew was using PCP through the night, Rae remembered ODB amping everyone up with a pushup contest.
"That brother right there is just amazing within himself," Raekwon said of ODB. "One story we had was we all was—even when we was on the road we was still fucking around, smoking dust and all that shit. Some dudes still had habits that was just habits 'cause we was associated with that kind of crowd of niggas. Like I said, for every Wu-Tang member, he has his own entourage. That's why we was always so deep. You got nine brothers, you may know ten dudes and you may know eight and you know six, you may be with the normal three that you with, he come with 12. That's 60 niggas right there. So everybody had their audience of dudes they ran with. At that time we was around RZA's crew of dudes. These niggas was just hooded out, whatever whatever.
"One night we was all in the room smoking dust just, 'Boom, boom, boom,'" he continued. "Dust is like that embalming fluid. So we in there blowing. Why me, Dirty, RZA, a couple other brothers from the hood, I think we wound up doing like 900 pushups that day, apiece. We all was just getting on the floor getting it in. Some niggas was at like 1,200. We smoking dust, amped up, like, 'Yeah, yeah, c'mon!' I think Dirty did about like 1,100 that night. I did about 950. Mind you, I never did that many pushups in my life. I did so many pushups that Goddamn day that I wasn't even dusted no more. I wiped that shit right out my body...That was some shit. Dirty, he was an amazing individual. That's one of the memories I can remember 'cause he was the one that was definitely amping everybody up."

I recently shared on my social media platforms how I was bullied for a brief time in elementary and middle school. It cut down my belief in myself for a season and because of that, I remember that I walked around at school unsure of myself and often with my head down. During the summer of my 7th grade year, I was relieved of all of that negative thought and energy about myself and I began to receive and believe that I was all that God said I was and I've been walking in that truth for the last 27 years. Because of that I walk with confidence! I still see people who seem to walk like they are down. I don't know if they are or not but I think that the way we enter a room is important. Join me on today's Smiley note as I share how to walk with GODFIDENCE!
New York is the greatest city in the world, so how come they can't get it right? We will discuss the travesty that has become a world wide disgrace. Eric Garner is dead today because NYPD THUGS choked the man and crushed his wind pipe ON FILM. People all over the world are in unison in their endorsement of the "I can't breathe" slogan. We will discuss this matter at length tonight.
Last week we were not able to delve deeply into the insanity circularity that is now the saga of Bill Cosby. Believe me when I tell you, tonight Kamal and Yale will climb all up in and around that issue.
And oh by the way, report today says the United States tortured detainees during the years after 9/11 under the Dubya administration. Did the CIA go to far? Was Bush justified? Can Bush SPELL justified?
Oh yeah, did Don Lemon go "HAM" on Tavis Smiley?

Originally from Texarkana, Arkansas, “D. Elli$ aka Mr. Entertainment!” moved to Dallas, Texas, to pursue a music career when his comedic personality catapulted him up the success ladder. This comedian-actor-musician worked faithfully in corporate America until he was encouraged by family and friends to channel his sense of humor into a dynamic and unique stage act. He was invited to do a set by the manager of the local Improv, which led to a weekly stint at another well-known entertainment club in Dallas. It was there that he was discovered and invited to open for Cedric the Entertainer in a three-minute act. He proved to be a roaring success and his moniker as “Mr. Entertainment!” was established.
He quickly gained a national following on the comedy club circuit, performing at numerous locations including, Laugh-A-Palooza, Improvs, and the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles with Steve Harvey, Kim Coles, Katt Williams and Ricky Smiley. He’s been featured on Def Jam for Podcast, and has done voice-over and character work for the “Tom Joyner Morning Show,” a popular nationally syndicated radio show.
