Jack talks with Katy Lock and Daniel May, creators of "The Specials", a groundbreaking new reality show premiering on Oprah Winfrey's OWN Network. You might describe this heartwarming series as Friends meets The Real World... sort of.
This is not your typical reality show which some might call contrived or perhaps even scripted situations and conflicts. This series captures the very real experiences of five young adults with intellectual disabilities living together as housemates in Brighton, England.
Katy and Daniel share their roller coaster journey that began when the original pilot that Katy was working on failed to get picked up by a UK Broadcaster. They discuss how they plowed through that disappointment, with the help of the housemates, by creating their own Web Show that went on to earn two Webby Awards in the "People's Choice" and "Reality" categories.
They go on to unfold the series of events that let them to landing a deal with Oprah Winfrey's OWN Network and share the excitement of the Thirteen Episode Marathon that will premier September 7th 2014, just 10 days from when this interview was recorded.

Our pal and the king of self-promotion Jon D'Amore switches gears and introduces us to a song he wrote performed by Mike Boldt of the group Dez Manku. Mike, like most musicians, felt the passion to play as a kid and began recording songs after his father bought him his first guitar. The influence of The Beatles, The Beach Boys and ELO can be heard on his cd's and film soundtracks. Mike debuts Jon's song Can You Feel the Son Go Down for May and Cynthia...live...noon eastern.
Her debut cd Sylvie featuring her skills with the ukulele has brought her global chatter. Contributing editor at MOJO magazine, music historian and singer/songwriter Sylvie Simmons is here with May and Cynthia...live...to bring them up to speed on her musical shenanigans.
With almost fifty years of music behind him, composer and rock guitarist Joey Molland joins the ranks of the icons of the 60's and 70's who blazed a musical trail that is unsurpassed. Though he's known best for his work with the band Badfinger, he continues to create music and is taking a cyber trip with May and Cynthia to chat up his cd Return to Memphis. He'll be on the air...live...Monday noon eastern.
As if celebrating 50 years of songwriting, with over 900 songs to his credit isn't enough. Brian Gari also managed to author a book about his Broadway show "Late Nite Comic". "We Bombed in London" was followed by a slight detour with "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way to My Stress Test" and "Close Encounters of the Celebrity Kind". This classic overachiever is still making music, and taking some time to take a trip on May and Cynthia's cyber time machine...if they can speed up fast enough to catch him.
