Alameda, CA – In the wild, when an animal escapes its predator, it can easily recover from the trauma of almost being eaten, shake off, and move on with its life. According to biologist and psychologist Dr. Peter A. Levine, humans used to have this capacity and we can learn to hardness this healing energy through Somatic Experiencing.
Somatic Experiencing is a psycho-biological method for resolving trauma symptoms and relieving chronic stress. Vera Gassner is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in trauma and an expert in utilizing Somatic Experiencing in helping people heal.
“Trauma has always been a part of my life,” says Vera. “I’m a Jewish immigrant from Poland and being an immigrant was one of my original traumas. I feel like I’m still learning how to breathe."
Trauma is about the inability of feeling safe. The premise of Somatic Psychology is that trauma is stored in the body.
“As a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, I’m a detective,” says Vera. “Doing this type of work is like peeling an onion. There are so many layers. I know what questions I can ask to help the client define where in their body the trauma is stuck, and how it can be encouraged to move, and slowly discharge.
Somatic Experiencing employs awareness of body sensation to help 'renegotiate', rather than re-live or re-enact trauma. In session, Vera combines her own experience negotiating trauma with her training in Somatic Therapy to teach her clients how they can be more aware of what they’re feeling.
“There’s strength in being a wounded healer,” says Vera. “It’s difficult working with complex trauma, but I’m honored to be part of assisting clients in discovering the wisdom of the body."

ELEMENTal Evolution's Wisdom and Vision:
Please help us welcome a very special guest to the show tonight. Dhyana Moyer is a Fascial Counterstrain, and Somatic Emotional Release and SHERRI FISCHER'S MUM!!
She draws upon over 30 years of experience in body work , and brings the spiritual aspect to her work.
Fascial Counterstrain is a fascial release that relieves strain and pains giving your body back its full range of motion. You can visualize a necklace that is full of knots. How are you going to release these knots? You are not going to stretch that necklace or pound on the necklace right? By gently taking it into each knot and allowing it to unfold will give you back your necklace fully intact. The same goes with your fascia. By understanding where these knots are coming from, a skilled Strain Counterstrain Practitioner will take each system of your body into consideration, and gently take each knot into itself in order to release.
Traumas are set up in the body in a number of ways. Injuries from car accidents, falls, surgery, sports injuries, illness, stresses of all kinds can tie your body up and give you pain.

For many years I have dreamt of being a radio voice, and this my first show is that dream made manifest in a way I could never have imagined. I love being a life coach, listening to people and drawing them to hear themselves and through their attention to themselves create the life they hunger for. I have asked a number of amazing people to interview on topic ranging from learning modalities , somatic integration, nuero linguistic programming, trance work, creativity. Creating the future with a client, inviting them to befriend themselves, transforming the critical innner voice to a loving supportive voice engages my whole being. We are spirit made manifest, our greatest gift is our capacity to learn. How do we expand into the greatness of ourselves, how do we support one another in the adventure of learning who we are? Where do we hold ourselves back? What do we choose to do with our precious time here on this beautiful planet?
Please join me alternative Fridays starting June 27th at 11 am EDT
These shows will be archived on my website as well as available for listening live.
