Paula Mints is the Founder and Chief Market Research Analyst of the global solar market research firm SPV Market Research. Ms. Mints began her solar market research career in 1997 with Strategies Unlimited. In 2005 she left Strategies Unlimited for Navigant where she continued her practice until October 2012, when she founded SPV Market Research. Ms. Mints provides classic solar market research products based on primary research and focused on the supply and demand sides of the solar industry and its technologies. Recently she has begun conducting end user research to discover what PV system residential buyer/lessee/PPA customers really think about the selling/installing process. She publishes often with Renewable Energy World and Renewable Energy Focus. Her chapter, Overview of Photovoltaic Production, Markets and Perspectives, was published in the Fraunhofer/Elsevier book Advances in Photovoltaics Volume 1, edited by Dr. Gerhard Willeke and Dr. Eicke Weber. Ms. Mints also speaks at several high profile conferences a year, including the IEEE PVSC, the EU PVSEC, Intersolar Europe and US as well as others. All of
Ms. Mints is on the Intersolar Europe and Intersolar US conference committees as well as the Renewable Energy World Conference committee and the SPI (Solar Power International) conference committees. She also serves on the expert committee of the EU PV Platform. She earned her MBA at San Jose State University in 1999.
Joel M. Lusk
Joel's path to remote system design can best be described as a continuum. After a successful career in the computer aided design and graphics industry Joel founded and managed his own construction firm designing and building his first solar system in 2000. Since then, his interest and excitement about solar power led him to design, manage and build hundreds of solar projects.
In addition to running his own company and co-founding Bright Harvest Solar, he has managed the installation divisions of both local and national solar integrators.
Bob Stojanovic, Director of Solar Power for ABB North America, is responsible for driving the company’s North American solar market strategy and sales. In this role, Stojanovic works with various ABB divisions and business units, to help develop strategy as well as market and deliver solutions ranging from discrete components to complex turnkey systems. He has interaction with a diverse customer base composed of the following; distributors, contractors, OEM, developers, Independent Power Producers and Utilities. He has been with ABB since 1999 over the years he has served in various roles as district or regional manager for low voltage drives, low voltage products, and industrial power products and power systems. As the solar electric power market continues to grow, Bob and his team focus on bringing intelligent, efficient and bankable solutions to the North American Solar Power market. He holds an MBA from Loyola Marymount University and a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from The University of Western Ontario.
Minh Le - Director, Solar Energy Technologies Office
Minh Le is the director of the Solar Energy Technologies Office within the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, where he helps manage and balance the portfolio of Research, Development, Demonstration, and Deployment programs in achieving our national SunShot goals. Prior to his current role at the Energy Department, Minh spent his career in industry developing technologies and scaling new technologies to high volume manufacturing. Minh earned his SB and SM degrees from MIT where he held fellowships by the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, and the Bose Foundation.
Zan Dubin-Scott is president of ZDS Communications, a public relations and marketing agency specializing in sustainability and the environment. Dubin-Scott launched the agency after a decade as a Los Angeles Times staff writer (and five years as a full-time correspondent for the paper). As a co-founding board member of Plug In America and the organization’s communications director, she sustains its position as the nation’s leading source of independent, expert information and opinion about the global plug-in electric vehicle industry. She launched, co-conceived, planned, executed and publicized, in partnership with Plug In America and the Sierra Club, National Drive Electric Week, an annual showcase promoting plug-in vehicles. The event drew tens of thousands of attendees to separate events in nearly 100 cities for its third iteration in 2013.
Dr. Stephen A. Smith has 30 years of experience effecting change for the environment. Since 1993, Dr. Smith has led the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE) as its executive director. SACE is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organization working to promote responsible energy choices that create global warming solutions and ensure clean, safe and healthy communities throughout the Southeast. SACE has grown to be a premier voice for energy efficiency and renewable energy issues in the region.
Dr. Smith represents SACE by providing leadership and professional expertise to external organizations, committees and working groups. Dr. Smith currently serves on the U. S. Climate Action Network board of directors and previously served as board chair. He also serves on the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Regional Energy Resource Council, which advises the TVA Board of Directors on energy resource activities in the Tennessee Valley region. In the last several years he has served on the North Carolina Legislative Commission on Global Climate Change and the North Carolina Climate Action Planning Advisory Group; the South Carolina Climate, Energy and Commerce Advisory Committee; State of Florida Energy Supply and Demand Committee of the state Climate Action Team; the national governing board for the Center for Resource Solutions’ National Green Power Accreditation; and the U. S. Department of Energy, Tennessee Valley Electric System Advisory Committee. Additionally, he served two terms on Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA) Regional Resource Stewardship Council, TVA’s Green Power Marketing Committee, and TVA’s Integrated Resource Planning Advisory Group. He has also had the privilege to testify before the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee; the Great Smoky Mountain Congressional Caucus; and several state public service commissions.
Phil Undercuffler, director of product management and strategy, OutBack Power
Phil Undercuffler has nearly 15 years of experience in the renewable energy field and guides the product development efforts at OutBack Power Technologies. Prior to that, he served as product manager for solar distributor Conergy, USA; led a sales team focused on serving the battery-based, standalone, grid-interactive and industrial markets; and was a technical services manager for Conergy and Dankoff Solar. Undercuffler has additional experience as an electrical contractor and journeyman electrician with Positive Energy, a specialty electrical contractor focused on the solar market, and he has lived off-grid for 13 of the past 15 years.
