My name is Lori Purdy Faitel and I am a Traumatic Brain Injury Survivor. And I am your host for THE SCIENCE OF HAPPINESS.I suffered a TBI many years ago, when I was 24 years old. As I speak to you I am 52 years old and very happy to share my age. Like many of us survivors of brain injury; I was clinically dead 3 times so…. it is proper to tell that I almost did not live to be 25, which makes being over 50 a blessing!
Back in the day, everything in my life was a dream come true. I was almost 25 years old, had a recent promotion in business which inspired me with dreams for my future, and I was attending college at night, I had recently moved out of my parents home for the first time, I had many friends and I was on the fast track to a future with the man I had been in love with for about 5 years. THEN on a beautiful sunny spring morning as I drove on the freeway to my job a construction truck dropped bales of hay onto my windshield causing me to lose control of my car, spinning off the road and into cement construction material. From that point forward my dreams were taken away. I was diagnosed with a TBI, in a mild coma for 7 days and it took about 6 years of therapy and extensive study before I was able to function like an adult again. I understand that the world is not filled with happiness; But for an hour or so lets concentrate on things that help to create happiness.
I am happy to have an interesting guest Wednesday night 8PM Eastern Time. Bethany is a TBI survivor who was undiagnosed for many months. After diagnosis and contact with other survivors she is on her way to a newer and happy life.

Today's topics included the following:
*26 month old camel; not many opportunities to practice. Some hits, some misses. Mom thinks part of the problem is she has trouble releasing.
*Night training question: do I have to keep a little potty in the bedroom? With my eldest I did but he would sometimes miss the potty a bit and his room always smelled like poop. Can I train my younger to just get up and go to the bathroom?
*Nap training is not going well, so Mom fears night training. (spoiler: you can't approach naptime training without night training)
*21 month twins, pooping in nap/night time diapers. Doing excellent in the waking hours.
*2.5 year old, day trained is running to the potty after she dribbles in her undies
*Homeschool question: How did you decide on curriculum for your son?
*'Nother homeschool question: what about socialization?

Excerpts from his website:
On Our Representatives: "The people of Michigan and these United States, are uncomfortable with the decision making process on their behalf...being a public servant is an honor, not a reward."
Parental Rights: "The 14th Amendment clearly defines the roll of parents.Parental questioning and decision making is the right of the parent. In regard to medical treatment, education, and socialization, these are the rights of parents also guaranteed in the 1st Amendment. You may question the upbringing of a child, but this does not require a CPS home investigation. Obvious abuse, yes. But to question cultural differences is an attack on our constitution. Cultural differences are to be respected, outside of harmful physical attack. Discipline is not abuse. Not to discipline is abuse. Immorality, irresponsibility, and aggressive abuse are reasonable cause for concern.
