It was over 30 years ago, in April, 1982, Kate Linder got the role and delivered her line, "Dinner is served," on "The Young and the Restless." She was asked back the next day and the next. Now she remains a key member of the top-rated daytime drama's cast. Still the realist, however, she continues to fly the friendly skies of United on weekends while simultaneously appearing on the soap opera. In 2005, Linder was elected to two terms as Governor of Daytime Programming Peer Group for the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (the folks who put on the Emmy Awards). On April 10, 2008, Linder received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Linder's role as Esther Valentine has been one of emotional highs and lows as the confidante and housekeeper to Mrs. Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper), the wealthiest woman in town. Mrs. Chancellor and Esther were kidnapped together (twice!) and Mrs. Chancellor delivered Esther's child, originally named Kate, now an adult calling herself Chloe, with a child of her own. Their relationship was severely tested when Esther's first husband murdered Mrs. Chancellor's husband during an attempted robbery and second husband was one of their kidnappers (Esther has the worst taste in men) but the two women learned to rely on one another for moral support and friendship.
Linder enjoys the best of two worlds — on the air and in the air. "Acting is my life," says Linder. "It's what I do for a living and my creative satisfaction. Flying is what I do to stay grounded as long as I can work it into my schedule."

Lauralee Kristen Bell (born December 22, 1968) is an American soap opera actress. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, and attended The Latin School of Chicago. The daughter of soap opera creators William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell, and sister to Bill Bell, Jr. and Bradley Bell as well as sister-in-law to Maria Arena Bell, Lauralee was offered a bit role as a model, Christine "Cricket" Blair, on her parents' show The Young and the Restless in 1983 and that followed into a contract role in 1986. Over time, her character matured from a model into a Legal Aid lawyer. Her character also dropped the childish epithet of "Cricket", especially after her rival Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) turned it into a pun against her, calling her "the Bug." In January 2005, Bell asked to be released from her contract. Lauralee married photographer Scott Martin on October 4, 1997. They have a son, Christian James Martin, born on January 17, 2001 and a daughter, Samantha Lee Martin, born on October 28, 2002. In June 2007 she reprised her role of Christine Blair for a short run on The Bold and the Beautiful. In July 2010 she returned to The Young and the Restless in a recurring capacity and is now the District Attorney of Genoa City.
