    in Self Help

As a group of sisterfriends huddled together in the kitchen following our Sunday celebration service one of them said to me, "Dee, you go gurl, not many chocolate sisters can wear red lipstick!" I smiled. See, years ago I'd stopped wearing bright red lipstick. Recently, I started back. Oooooooh, and I love it!

I'd bet you too have a tube of red lipstick in your makeup bag, right? Do you dare wear it? You like bright, bold colors but do you wear them on your lovely bones? Can you, if asked on the spot, stand center stage and tell a room full of attentive people what you do, love, and fear? Do you ever just let it rip and brag about how fabulous, strong, and talented you are?

If you answered "no" to any one of these questions, why don't you? What's stopping you?

In this episode, Successful Women Wear Red Lipstick, I'll tell you a quietly kept "secret" that I "stumbled" (it was divine intervention really) across that simply explains why some women ROCK men's worlds, shine in their chosen work, and just have more fun, while other women struggle. As we go into 2015 wanting and hoping for more, I'll offer you some simple but powerful strategies for creating more of what you want! I hope you'll tune in on Thursday, December 18, 6:30pm ET on Own Your Power with DeBora M. Ricks.

Taking The Fight To A Common Enemy: Depression

    in Christianity

Its that time of year where we get caught up in all the gatherings, Christmas parties, meeting with family and friends and yes plenty of shopping. We find ourselves moving at a fast pace, with the great temptation to keep up with the Jones. And some how all of these things that were suppose to bring great joy, end up delivering great misery, sadness and depression. US World News reports researched and found that the suicide rate is the highest its been in 25 yrs. And really we just still have a difficult time finding ways to cope with this common enemy. Were afraid to speak to our friends, minister and find ourselve in a pit of despair. For those who have battled depression, they understand how dibilitating it is. The shame and stigma of not having it all together. Lossed loved ones, unexpected divorce, traumatic childhood. How can we fight this enemy and defeat it? Whats a proper response to it? And how can we encourage others rather than casting blame?

In this most holy time of the year its easy for people on the fence to become overwhelmed or disenchanted with religion altogether. It doesn't help that one of the most prominent religions in the world is linked with some of the vilest acts of our lifetime. Still, for many of us who don't frequent the pews or read from a holy book each week it is undeniable the power and the presence of God. The population draws closer to God this time of year than any other. I' d rather not talk about those devout worshippers who have their faith set in stone. For them this time of year is but another reaffirmation of what they know to be true.

Let's talk about the man who knows God and understands he has been blessed but has some questions. He has faith but he has cynicism too. To him the bible reads with great meaning in parts and in others its just to much to believe. The over the top believer makes him uncomfortable and bends him more to doubt than faith. Who knows where this guy ends up but this time of year he too draws close to God be it human nature or true destiny.

A fixture on the pound-for-pound lists and a fan-favorite, Paul “The Punisher” Williams had an outstanding 41-2 record with 27 wins by knockout. Williams, a two-division titlist, became paralyzed from the waist down following a motorcycle accident in May 2012. Even after becoming a paraplegic from the accident, Williams maintained his signature smile and a great attitude. Recently,  Williams connected with Team Fight to Walk co-founder Boyd Melson in New York City, where he helped Williams find speaking engagements. During their time together, Melson took Williams  to Rutgers University to meet Dr. Wise Young. He showed Williams patients treated during clinical trials in China. Williams saw the patients walking following a surgical procedure that enabled their axons to regenerate. Young is planning to conduct the same trials next year in the United States. Amazed by what he saw, Williams immediately joined Team Fight to Walk. Both Williams and Boyd Melson will appear on the broadcast tonight to talk about boxing and Team Fight to Walk (www.teamfighttowalk.com). Rich, Tony, and Tom will also recap last week's combat sports news and events and preview the upcoming events.
