When Jennifer Barnes Maggio sat down to write her new book for single moms, she asked herself, “What is the one feeling that keeps surfacing, as a single parent?” The answer was easy - OVERWHELMED!--- Whether it is the stress of finances or parenting children alone, the single parent often feels stressed, burdened, and ultimately overwhelmed.
Betty Mayfield had her share of obstacles of overcome. As a single parent, she learned first hand that it's not easy to raise a child in today's society. With 11.7 million families in the US headed by a single parent and 85.2% of them are women, we need to learn how to parent in a different way and how step parenting can help (or not in some cases) make the lives of our children better. This week, Sunil Tulsiani interviews Sadhana Sabharwal. Sadhana Sadharwal is a single mother with three sons, a full-time law clerk and an enthusiastic real estate investor. Her motto is, “When the student is ready, a teacher will appear.” Over the past four years of investing in real estate, Sadhana has acquired eighteen different properties, including single family homes, duplexes, fourplexes, a fiveplex, a sixplex and, most recently eight unit buildings. She enjoys positive cash flow from all her properties and looks forward to investing in more.
Sadhana’s specialty is buying undervalued properties that need work, fixing them up, and then refinancing them in order to get the newly-gained equity out of the property; she then continues as owner in order to rent them out to tenants, who provide her with an ongoing positive return on her investment.

Jacqueline Bernal is a Certified Professional Bookkeeper and owner of Bernal Business Services Inc. She started her business in 2004 after being laid off work 4 months after she and her husband separated. Feeling alone and abandoned, with two children aged 9 and 11 years old, and with little or no support as a powerful group tried to take their land, she accepted a nanny job the very next day. Over the next few months she picked up a couple of bookkeeping clients, and in June 2004, with a grant from EI, she returned to school at Academy of Leaning to upgrade her computer skills with the hopes of starting a bookkeeping business. In May 2005 she graduated, and attended several training and networking sessions at The Business Link.
As the demand for top quality bookkeepers continued to grow, Jackie struggled with trying to grow her business, raise her kids, keep her land, and not lose faith in life. Today, her kids are grown and gone. Her son works with her, her former husband is one of her student intern’s as he takes the Payroll Compliance course at Academy of Learning, and she has recently opened an office in Edmonton. Jackie has developed a unique system of training, coaching, and mentoring her team of university, college, and diploma graduates who are interested in developing their own bookkeeping business. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Professional Bookkeepers of Canada, and a QuickBooks ProAdvisor.
Check out Jackie's website at www.PaperworkBeGone.com for more information how she can help you with your business.
