Why do we do self-defeating things like eat an entire sleeve of cookies when we are supposed to be on a diet? Or run up charges on our credit cards when we’re already struggling to make the minimum payment? Or act out in ways that sabotage our relationships?
Taming Your Outer Child: Overcoming Self-Sabotage and Healing from Abandonment psychotherapist and author Susan Anderson says that these self-sabotaging behaviors come from an aspect of our personalities that most people aren’t consciously aware of — their Outer Child.
Hayden Hall, Chef / Owner of The Oxbow Restaurant in Clarksdale, MS, talks about his roots in the Delta and why he came home from more established culinary cities to pursue his culinary dreams - which now include world-famous Fish Tacos.

Most couples start out their committed relationships with the best intentions and optimism. Over time, upsets and disagreements begin to erode the loving feelings, and fighting erupts, often escalating toward divorce. What happened to all that love, they may ask? How do they recapture that sense of devotion and delight? Our guests will discuss communication skills to quickly turn those upsets around into opportunities for growth in the relationship.

Anyone who has struggled to make peace with the refrigerator and the scale can identify with the vicious cycle of painfully forging a bit of progress, only to see it vanish after getting fed up with the struggle to eat healthfully.
Our guest on this CHI FOR YOURSELF offers a new approach for stopping this cycle once and for all. The solution it provides has very little to do with food and everything to do with developing the essential skills that the majority of overeaters lack for coping with life’s ups and downs. Karen Koenig is the author of Outsmarting Overeating: Boost Your Life Skills, End Your Food Problems.

We'll dive deep into the Sigma Alpha Epsilon video that surfaced a few days ago. The video features a frat at the University of Oklahoma singing a racist chant. Also, in recent weeks, there have been several instances that have brought equal treatment and rights for black men/people into question. 2 professional athletes, one black and one white, both battled substance abuse issues. However Josh Gordon, the black athlete was lambasted and crucified by the media and in the court of public opinion. “He’s dumb! What an idiot, he’s blowing the teams money!” While the white athlete Josh Hamilton, was treated with much more compassion and kind comments. He was greeted with pleas for treatment and thoughts of well wishes. The complete opposite of how Gordon was received. Why do the media and public immediately demonize black men for things that others deserve to be saved from, and receive true empathy when facing these situations?
