Film makers Ken and Sarah Burns
A chat with film maker Ken Burns and his daughter Sarah Burns. THE CENTRAL PARK FIVE, a new film from award-winning filmmaker Ken Burns, will air on April 16, 2013, 9–11 p.m. ET on PBS (check local listings). The film tells the story of the five black and Latino teenagers from Harlem who were wrongly convicted of raping a white woman in New York City’s Central Park in 1989.

The competition will be hitting nearly 120 cities around the world from New York to Africa to Asia, Europe, and more, challenging local residents to make a film from inception to completion in 48 hours. ABOUT THE FILM - A Lovely Day
In 2009 Oakland based independent filmmaker Kerri Gawryn began chronicling the work of Beats, Rhymes and Life (a local Oakland, CA advocacy organization for youth of color) and the Oakland High School Fifth Element Hip Hop Club. The result is A LOVELY DAY, an inspiring feature-length film documenting the trials, tribulations, and achievements of a group of Oakland high school students and rappers. The young rappers embark on a six-month journey to find their voice, their talent, and their path to healing within Hip Hop culture. Atlanta Independent Film Festival
The Herstory Independent Film Festival taking place in Atlanta, Georgia (March 20-April 6, 2013) will feature the work of Afro Cuban filmmaker Gloria Rolando. According to Grace Lynis, of Cinnamon Traveler (www.cinnamontraveler.org), "Over the course of three weeks, our mission is to highlight the power of history in daily life and to recognize the scholastic significance of African Diaspora research and historiography."

Wielding the Sword of the Spirit - Kingdomwood Film Festival
I'll be chatting with Audrey Thomas, director of the Kingdomwood Film Festival held in Atlanta, Georiga, October 5-7. Kingdomwood will also be putting on a workshop to teach people how to make films of faith on June.29th. We'll discuss that opportunity as well as a special workship on mapping of personal goals which will be held on April 6. Both of those events will be fundraisers for the festival in October.

Update on my short film / Report from Sidewalk Film Festival
This past weekend, my short film, AFTER THE TORMENT, was screened at its second film festival ... this one, being the local film festival here in Birmingham, the Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival. Tonight, I will recap the festival weekend and also talk about the short film and the continued pursuit of financing to get the backing to make the feature film that inspired the short film.
