Actor James Wilder drops by to discuss his new film 3 Holes and a Smoking Gun, a fascinating thriller about screenplay mania. Wilder excels as a duplicitous, washed-up Hollywood screenwriter in this unusual indy gem. The Red Dirt International Film Festival named Wilder Best Lead Actor for his performance, and the film also won the prestigious Grand Jury Prize at the same festival as well as Best Screenplay honors at L.A.’s Downtown Film Festival and Best U.S. Narrative Film of 2014 at the Laughlin International Film Festival. Wilder portrayed an ambitious lawyer in TV’s Equal Justice, a drug-dealing seducer in “Melrose Place,” and a demonic serial killer in the acclaimed movie Murder One.
His other film and TV credits include: Scorchers, Perfume, Mind Games, Man of the Year, Flypaper, Nevada and The Coriolis Effect. Bitten by the showbiz bug early, Wilder was performing his one-man show in Paris at the age of 14. Later, he studied at New York’s famous Actors Studio and appeared in Broadway’s Sugar Babies as well as with Ed Asner in the ABC Theater presentation Cracked Up. Wilder’s artistic interests go beyond the realm of acting. He is also a creative architect and designer.

Kira Soltanovich grew up in San Francisco during a time when there were bad neighborhoods, cheap coffee and it wasn’t ironic to ride the cable cars. She began her career in comedy back in 1998 right after asking her immigrant Russian parents if they were copacetic with her desires to become a stand up comedian. After her mother and father confessed “It’s not like you’re smart enough to be a doctor” Kira took that as their blessing to pursue her dreams and she’s never looked back,
She was a series regular on the hidden camera show Girls Behaving Badly for 4 seasons, and was a correspondent on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for over 8 years.
Kira has appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Last Call with Carson Daly, Hell’s Kitchen, Last Comic Standing, Set List TV, Nick Mom, Hello Ross! and The World Stands Up. She has written and performed with Joan Rivers, Scott Baio, Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber. And if that doesn’t impress you, I don’t know what will.
She’s been a writer on How’d You Get So Rich? for TV Land and Prankstars on Disney.
Her half hour Showtime special, Here Comes Trouble, won Best Stand Up Special by a Soviet.*
(*There is no such award)
Kira’s three year old son inspired her to have her very own podcast. On The Kira Soltanovich Show, Kira interviews other fellow comedians who have kids and they discuss all things comedy and colic related.

She was nicknamed “The Last of the Red Hot Mamas” and hot she was. Bette Midler so revered her talent that she named her daughter after her. Who is “her?” Her name is Sophie Tucker, the Ukrainian-born American singer, comedian, actress, and radio personality. Known for her raunchy, rowdy, risqué delivery of comical songs, she was one of the most popular entertainers in America the first half of the 20th century. Joining Halli at her table on The Halli Casser-Jayne Show, Wednesday January 21, 3 pm ET are the authors of I AM SOPHIE TUCKER and the film producers of THE OUTRAGEOUS SOPHIE TUCKER Susan and Lloyd Ecker; producer, writer, performer, director TRAV SD, and a legend in his own right American radio and television host Joe Franklin.
In 1973, Susan and Lloyd Ecker’s first date was a Bette Midler concert. They fell in love with one another, with the Divine Miss M and Miss Sophie Tucker. Forty years later, three children, the sale of a million dollar business, their obsession with Tucker still intact, they are a two-man band to bring The Last of the Red Hot Mamas to the Twenty-first century audience with their new book and film.
Trav SD is the author of NO APPLAUSE, JUST THROW MONEY: THE BOOK THAT MADE VAUDEVILLE FAMOUS, which Bette Midler calls the “best showbiz book.” He writes and speaks on theater, arts and culture. His work has appeared in among other publications The Village Voice, American Theatre, Time Out New York and The New York Sun.
Legendary talk show host Joe Franklin is an American treasure. His first show began in 1951. Billed as the “King of Nostalgia,” Franklin has interviewed such luminaries as Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Barbra Streisand, and Marilyn Monroe. He was a personal friend of Sophie Tucker’s.
