Sean and Loleda Moman were returning from a family vacation when an accident changed their lives forever. Instead of retreating, however, they decided to keep moving foward and have raised a wonderful family while making in impact at Allegheny Center Alliance Church on the North Side of Pittsburgh. Today Sean and Loleda join co-hosts Karla and John to talk about their journey and faith that has made them worthy of the title, "urban heroes."

This episode is for anyone who wants to do add a little more heroism to their lives, Real-Life Superheroes and every-day heroes, alike.
We've assembled several guests to share their best advice on what you can and should do to best prepare for the role of "hero." These guests are dedicated do-gooders who spend at least 70% of their free time in the service of others, for no pay.
If you're already living the hero life and would like to add your two cents, please call the number above or join us in the chat room. We'd love to hear from you!
P.S. If you've seen the new Avengers AOU movie, join us! We'll be talking about it, too.
Dr. Lola Thorpe is the pastor of the North Side Institutional Church of God in Christ and her daughter Lisa is the president of the Nonprofit Leadership Training Institute (NLTI). Both have served with distinction in the Pittsburgh community and have been honored for their work. Today the title of "Urban Hero" is added to that list of recognitions. Both ladies will be back-to-back guests on this expanded show.
Dr. Todd Allen has been on the show before, talking about his Common Ground project that conducts bus tours of Civil Rights sites in the South. Today Todd joins the show in a different capacity a a 2015 Urban Hero. Todd will share with Karla and John what contributed to his work as a Hero and perhaps also give a preview of his talk as the commencement speaker for the 2015 CUBM graduation on May 4 at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in East Liberty at 6 PM.
It is hard to refer to either of the Jackson couple without mentioning the other. They are truly a team who have distinguished themselves as urban heroes both individually and as a couple. Both are CUBM graduates, with Helen earning her Masters in Organizational Leadership and Andrew working on his bachelor's degree as we broadcast. Helen also serves as the Recruiting Specialist for CUBM, while Andrew serves as building maintenance supervisor for the seminary in which CUBM has classes. Both the Jacksons join Karla and John today to talk about their lives together and their ministry philosophy that has earned them the well-deserved title of urban heroes!
Karla and John continue with their interviews of the 2015 class of Urban Heroes with their interview of Pastors George and Sandra Russell. The Russells have been married for 54 years and pastors at Temple of God Church in Washington, PA for 27 years. Today the Russells join our co-hosts to talk about life, marriage, raising children and ministry. During the show, one of their children will call in to talk about her parents and their work. Once you listen, you will know why they were nominated and chosen for the latest class of Urban Heroes.
We are restarting our blog-radio show, "Heroes of Katrina." Several years ago, we hosted the show under the generous support of Bonnie Kaye ("Books of Excellence"), who provided support for our efforts.
We are now restarting the show under a thematic of "Ten Years After." What are the heroes written about in the book, "Katrina: A Freight Train Screamin'" doing now? How have their lives changed. What is new and interesting for them?
All these questions are important, as Katrina changed many lives in many ways...As always we provide this show to exhibit a perspective of the resiliency of the human spirit.
As the winds of Katrina blew, lives were changed. People did what they had to do...and their stories reflect the power of human and perseverance and spirit.
What better than ten years later do we explore lives affected and re-equlibrated and re-reflected.
Please join us for an inspirational and reflective discussion on the human spirit as reflected by the changes of lives.
