Pt. 2 Pat Vegas of Redbone: Legendary Yaqui, Shoshone and Aztec Musician

    in Religion

Pt. 2 "In a time machine I would like to go back to the 70’s when music was real music."

    Pat Vegas: Redbone Movement

Redbone is a Native American/Mexican American rock group that was most active in the 1970s. Originally from Coalinga, California, brothers Patrick (bass and vocals) and Candido "Lolly" Vasquez (guitar and vocals) moved to Los Angeles in 1969 to form the group Redbone. The name Redbone itself is a joking reference to a Cajun term for a mixed-race person ("half-breed"), the band's members being of mixed blood ancestry. The band referenced Cajun and New Orleans culture many times in their lyrics and performing style.

Pat and Lolly, who were a mixture of Yaqui, Shoshone and Mexican heritage, had previously performed and recorded under the stage surname Vegas, in part to downplay the Latin American association of their birth surname, Vasquez. According to Pat Vegas, it was Jimi Hendrix - himself part Native American - who talked the musicians into forming an all-Native American rock group, and they signed as the band "Redbone" to Epic Records in 1969. The band then consisted of Pat Vegas, Lolly Vegas, Peter DePoe and Robert Anthony Avila, a Yaqui-Chicano, better known by his stage name Tony Bellamy. Their debut album Redbone was released in 1970.

Redbone played primarily rock music with R&B, Cajun, Jazz, tribal, and Latin roots. Their first commercial success came with the single "Maggie" and two other hit singles followed - "The Witch Queen of New Orleans" and "Come and Get Your Love". In 1973, Redbone released the politically oriented "We Were All Wounded at Wounded Knee", recalling the massacre of Lakota Sioux Indians by the Seventh Cavalry in 1890.

4000 Mile Medicine Wheel Ceremony w/ Blue Thunder, Shoshone Elder

    in Religion

    Preecorded 5/10/2012

Blue Thunder is a Shoshone Tribal member from the Wind River Indian Reservation near Ft. Washakie, Wyoming, BlueThunder has been conducting healing ceremonies since 2003 with notable results.

Family of Humanity, we are reaching out to the world, teaching about Nature's Laws which represent how to live in peace and harmony, in Oneness with all things.  We teach about how love works and how each and every thought or action that humanity has affects the Web of Life and the electro-magnetic elements of Mother Earth.  We are all made of these elements, the Earth, Air, Water and Fire, and what we do and think imprints upon them and replays itself.

The Sacred Sites of the world from the mountain peaks to the rivers, oceans to the pyramids, are what keep the Earth and all her living beings charged with life force energy, with Chi or Ka.  The world was put together in sacred geometric patterns, circles within circles, which have been de-harmonized through humanity's mining,  development, thoughts and actions and these influences have affected most all sacred sites or places worldwide.

Blue Thunder a/k/a Bavado (Rainbow Thunder Heart) Eastern Shoshone Elder Speaks

    in Religion

Bennie LeBeau, known as BlueThunder, is a younger tribal elder of the Eastern Shoshone Nation, located on the Wind River Indian Reservation, in  Ft. Washakie, Wyoming.  Blue Thunder has had many years of hands-on experience in indigenous traditions and culture with the Eastern Shoshone Tribe, and has been welcomed and taught by elders in many different tribes in South and Central America.

As a youth he was encouraged by his Shoshone elders to study Cultural Anthropology and Applied Indigenous Studies at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. After college, BlueThunder was pulled by Spirit to begin studying firsthand the ancient messages known as the "original instructions" engraved on large stones around the country. For several years he traveled around the nation, locating the stones, some of which were half-buried at long forgotten sacred sites. He meditated intensively on the petroglyphs, opening himself to the stones' messages and the knowledge of the ancient elders who carved them.

BlueThunder's interpretation of these sacred sites and the petroglyph "texts" is sublime and multi-dimensional—his messages learned from both Dream Time and the many sharings of Elders of the Shoshone and other Indigenous Nations. Through the Medicine Wheel and other ceremonies, BlueThunder is bringing critical public awareness to these rock art sites as the original "Gardens of Eden"—places of tremendous power and harmony that strengthen and positively influence the surrounding countryside and all creatures within it.
