SORT BY Relevancy
As gun control advocates cheered President Obama's call to action on gun violence, the White House began to weigh its options Monday on how to fulfill the president's vow to use all the power of his office to prevent future mass killings. The most likely initiatives following Friday's Connecticut school shooting — efforts to tighten gun show sales, for example, or to reinstate a ban on assault weapons — are laden with political pitfalls and challenges. Although several members of Congress indicated they were newly open to gun control measures, opposition to stiffer gun laws is expected to remain firm, particularly in the Republican-led House.
Taking on another uphill legislative battle would scramble an already full agenda for the White House, which is embroiled in fiscal negotiations and hoping to start Obama's second term with a focus on immigration reform.
We discussed the Connecticut shooting as it affected the nation in more ways than one. It has reminded us that we have to take caution in how we handle guns in America. Our priorities may have to be reworked and Mike Mays and the regular crew discuss how these events should be handled. The second amendment has also been discussed in the time of context.

FERGUSON, Mo. - An unarmed 18-year-old black man was shot and killed by police in suburban St. Louis after an altercation that involved two people and an officer, authorities said Sunday while hundreds of protesters demanded answers outside.
Police have not officially disclosed the name of the man who was killed, but family members say it was 18-year-old Michael Brown.
Belmar said one of the men pushed the officer back into his squad car and the struggle began. Belmar said at least one shot was fired from the officer's gun inside the police car.
The struggle spilled out into the street, where one of the two people was shot multiple times. Belmar said the exact number of shots wasn't known, but "It was more than just a couple." He also said all shell casings found at the scene matched the officer's gun.
Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson said the man who was shot was unarmed.

The shooting of young brother Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri has invoked a lot of fear, anger and emotion in black people around the country. The media has tried to paint this young man in a horrible light to warm the jury pool up to an acquittal for this cop if it makes it to court. Media outlets have focused on Looting and other minor things to distract from the poor history of this city and it's relations to African Americans. We will be discussing the issue and what we believe are the solutions for future incidents like this. We can't lose another black life to senseless violence. Trayvon Martin, Jordan Davis, Michael Brown and the countless others who have been gunned down being unarmed in this country just for being young black and male in America.
