Author Nicholas Duncan joins me this week to talk about his book: Tales From A Muzungu
Imagine you are on a plane to a destination you know very little about. On top of that, you don't know anyone else, will be living there for two years, only have a vague idea of what you will be doing, or if it was the right decision. A major comfort is knowing that you aren't the only person having anxiety during this scenario. This is just the beginning of a Peace Corps volunteer’s service. Tales from a Muzungu is about a Peace Corps Volunteer’s two year experience (2010 – 2012) in Uganda. Nicholas Duncan covers the highs and lows of life in Africa by detailing the atmosphere of Uganda and the day to day life of a volunteer. Nicholas writes about his experience with non-profits, adjusting to deep village life, and the surprises of being a muzungu in Africa.

O'Sensei Ronald Duncan his father,
Born in Panama. Professor Ronald Duncan began training in boxing at the age of seven. Since Professor Ronald Duncan grew up in an area where many of the elite military forces of that country were training in jungle warfare, he learned at an early age to read the signs of nature for directions in and out of the jungle. It was the beginning of a long and very involved career in many aspects of the martial arts.
Ronald Duncan went on to serve in the United States Marine Corp where he was a member of the USMC Judo team and earned one of his earliest black belt rankings. Professor Duncan went on to earn a black belt in several other disciplines such as Hakko Ryu Jujitsu, Dai-nippon Jujitsu Ryu, Sosuishi Ryu, Kin Dai Gakko Ryu, Aikido, Aiki-Jujitsu, Kempo, Kobujitsu (weaponry), and Shinobino-jitsu (popularly known as Ninjitsu). His teachers were all legendary men; Charlie Neal, Ernie Cates, Tatsuo Uzaki, and Don Draeger.
Hr1 David Bego, author of Devil at Our Doorstep, talks about unions, SEIU, cardcheck, right to work, immigration, and what all that has to do with the recent racial divide and riots in Ferguson, Baltimore, and New York.
Hr2 Boy Scouts say don't teach little boys how to fire water guns, it might teach them... what?! How about you could teach them to respect life, and gun safety? It's about values, not weapons.
Corey Duncan, Baltimore correspondent joins Joe to talk about what's REALLY going on over there now that things are supposedly simmered down. City government has turned their backs on law enforcement. The new Attorney General leaves much to be desired. And Michelle Obama is an angry black woman.
Have you had your healthy dose of reality lately?
There are always at least two sides to every story. Have you ever wondered how someone, who saw the same thing you did, walked away telling a vastly different story? Which version was correct? Which one was the REAL story? Actually, both are! It’s just a matter of perspective.
Joe takes the issues… especially the controversial issues (politics, prejudice, religion, illegal immigration)… and brings in people from different sides to share their viewpoint. This is definitely not a fluff piece. And while no one is attacked, the questions are hard-hitting.
But the conversation is always respectful and you’re sure to learn something new, even if you don’t agree!
If you’ve always wondered how the “other side” thinks and how they’ve arrived at their “stand”, then this is the show for you!
It’s not the right side, it’s not the wrong side, but the REAL side of the issues!
We use too much energy for negativity towards each other instead of using positive energy to build each other. Often times we forget that each person have the right to have an independent opinion without fear of being attacked because others disagree. We need to stop, listen, and simplify what it is that we have heard. Often we are quick to respond to what is being said instead of letting it marinate in our spirit. Maybe the words are needed to feed the soul/spirit yet we are quick to reject that which we fail to recognize or thought of first. Once we get away from our own EGO’s (Everyone’s Greatest Obstacle) or PRIDE (Personal Reasoning inside Dividing Everyone) we may see things differently. So ask yourself what is more important, PRIDE/EGO or acknowledging everyone have their own feelings? Can you aceept Personal Responsibility of how you treat others?
