Michael’s impressive Production Design credits on over 21 feature films include the award winning “Boys Don’t Cry,” “You Can Count on Me,” “August Rush,” “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee,” and “Cop Out.” Michael Shaw settled in New York City after studying painting, sculpture & film at the Rhode Island School of Design. While constructing scenery by day to support his fine art career by night, one of Michael’s first design jobs; a short film titled “THE ROOM,” won top prizes at Cannes, Sundance and MOMA. Once bitten, Michael realized Production Design was the perfect career to mold all his creative interests together. Consequently, Michael approaches every film as an artist. Michael’s first feature as Production Designer was the celebrated film “Heavy,” directed by James Mangold, starring then ingénue Liv Tyler. The film won the Special Jury prize at Cannes and the New York Times singled out Michael’s design work stating “An impressive consistency links the crisp specific look of Heavy.” Michael balances his design career between feature films, commercials and television. His television work includes three seasons of the ABC police comedy “The Job” staring Dennis Leary, three seasons of the Showtime series “The Big C” starring Laura Linney and three seasons of the highly acclaimed Netflix series “Orange is The New Black” staring Taylor Schilling. Michael is currently in production on the first season of the TV show “Billions” starring Paul Giamatti and Damion Lewis for Showtime. You can email your questions to firstname.lastname@example.org or follow us on Twitter @123Film
