Birch, Jr., former Chief Justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court. Venita later accepted a position with Glankler Brown, a Memphis law firm. The firm’s members voted Venita as its first African-American female partner in 2006.

Pig is a mixed breed female dog who was born with a birth defect called "short spine syndrome". She appears to not have a neck and the length of her body is about 7 inches shorter than normal, giving her the appearance of a pig! This has not stopped her from running and playing just like a normal dog and she is full of love. You will hear about this dogs amazing story and how she is bringing comfort and hope to many and changing our view of dogs born with birth defects. Pig is not "defective" but unique!
Also joinig us is Laura Cardwell from Hand in Paw Hand in Paw, a nationally known non-profit founded in 1996, provides professionally trained handler and animal therapy teams to help people heal physically and emotionally. These teams successfully address abuse, disabilities, illiteracy, and chronic and terminal illness in more than 50 facilities in Jefferson, Shelby, Blount and St. Clair counties. Research has proven animal-assisted therapy reduces anxiety, lowers cholesterol and blood pressure and improves heart and lung function.

Born & raised in Memphis, TN, Cathy Anderson-Kent is a candidates running for Shelby County General Sessions Court Judge, Division 10, the current Domestic Violence Court. Cathy has ONE GOAL, ONE PASSION: JUSTICE!" With 21 years of experience in the practice of criminal law and 19 years as an attorney at the Shelby County Public Defenders Office where she has maintained a strong track record of ensuring justice for her indigent clients. Cathy writes training materials as well as trains and mentors younger attorneys. She's formerly chaired the Domestic Violence Council’s Oversight Committee which certifies and monitors batterer intervention programs in Shelby County.
She assists in finding employment for her clients using the Public Defender's job list and has found for them housing, healthcare and childcare by reaching out to various social service organizations in the greater mid-south area. Cathy Anderson-Kent is a committed public servant. She volunteers at the Memphis Area Legal Service’s at the Ben Hooks Public Library where she assist members of the public with legal matters. Cathy renders advice on restoring voter and other citizenship rights of convicted felons who have rehabilitated their lives. Further she apprises the public to Tennessee’s Expungement Act of 2012 which allows those who've infracted the law only once to have their criminal records erased. Cathy has formerly lectured on the legal significance of maintaining a valid driver’s license in the Memphis City Schools’ Driver’s Education Program. Cathy also serves on the Board of Directors for the Krayola Learning Academy, has tutored for the GED program at the Shelby County Correction Center and is the founder of the Solid Justice Legal Ministry.
Father's Day Special & the Judical Candidate Judge Tarik Sugarmon for Juvenile Court. A native Memphian, Judge Tarik B. Sugarmon, son of former Judge Russell B. Sugarmon and Dr. Miriam DeCosta-Willis. At a young age, Tarik was also exposed to the law when he spent time after school in the law office of his father.
Because of his parents' involvement in the Civil Rights Movement, Tarik was one of three students to desegregate Peabody Elementary School in 1961, a year after the “Memphis Thirteen.” He met and marched with Martin Luther King, Jr. & standing on a stairway behind the stage of Mason Temple to hear Dr. King give his unforgettable "I've Been to the Mountaintop" speech the stormy night of April 3, 1968.
He attended Morehouse College, & received a B. A. degree in banking and finance. Though on a career path in business, he became aware of the economic and political disparities confronting the African-American community. Sugarmon entered Howard University School of Law. He was third in his first-year class and was in the top five percent of graduates. Returning to Memphis after graduation in 1983, he passed the Tennessee Bar Exam on the first attempt and was admitted to the bar that October. Offered a position by A C Wharton, Jr., as a part-time Shelby County Public Defender. A month later, Sugarmon began private practice with the law firm of Wharton and Wharton. He handled general civil and criminal defense cases before the county, state, and federal courts of Tennessee for (15) years.
In 1998, Mayor Herenton appointed attorney Tarik B. Sugarmon to Division Two of the Memphis Municipal Court, and he has been re-elected to two full terms since. After thirty years of service to Memphis and Shelby County he seeks your support in helping him to protect the rights of our most precious but at-risk citizens--our children.
